estimated construction price of $1.2 billion just to cut the delay from 140 milliseconds to 88 milliseconds. ummm... yay!?

Global warming does not mean that it becomes warmer everywhere on earth. Indeed, when you change the dynamics of sea and air currents it is pretty obvious that there will be areas which become significantly colder.

Whether global warming is man-made is certainly up to debate, but the probability that it is seems to be well above 50%. Even if it is a natural cycle doesn't mean it wouldn't become much worse if we continue like before. The economic consequences will be huge. On the other hand, investment into ecologic technologies to prevent - or better reduce - global warming will come at a fraction of that cost. If implemented correctly, they will create a surge in economic growth. If we are wise, we invest into ecologic technologies for economic, not just ecologic reasons. As a side note, I think this is anyway the only chance for recovery of the ailing economies in the US, Europe and Japan.

The quicker transmission time is important in the financial world where milliseconds can count in executing profitable trades and transactions. “Speed is the crux,” Ebell said. “You’re cutting the delay from 140 milliseconds to 88 milliseconds.”

What a sick world...

hmmm have they talked to Canada yet about using the northwest passage? I mean since it is Canadian water all the way? The US has a Terrority dispute about it with Canada because they don't want it to be controlled by the Government of Canada but since it is within 200km of Canadian islands on both sides of the passage it would be hard to say it isn't Canadian Territory. That means since it is traveling through Canadian Territory it could be subject to Canadian Electronic Transfer tariffs.

most climate modelers

Most climate modelers? Has the tyranny of the climate changers now gone democratic? The only thing that remains the same is change. They will get the undersea cable in place just in time for the next ice age.

We need to support the "green movement" so Al Gore can make millions in the stock he's got..

bjones.. nope, they don't disputer it but the attribute it to a natural cycle in the earths temperature. The activist also don't like to talk about this winter being one of the coldest winters in several decades.

The fact is that the process of global warming continues, and Arctic ice continues to melt.

that was smart, to get the US broadbad money.

Global warming caused by humans is a hoax.

Weather goes in cycles and always has.

I'm not saying we don't need to be irresponsible when it comes to pollution but what I am saying is that we shouldn't buy this line that Co2 emissions are going to ruin the planet and we need governments to fix the problem. Government CAUSES far more problems than it fixes.

Someone make up their minds:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1242011/DAVID-ROSE-The-mini-ice-age-starts-here.html

"According to the US National Snow and Ice Data Centre in Colorado, Arctic summer sea ice has increased by 409,000 square miles, or 26 per cent, since 2007 – and even the most committed global warming activists do not dispute this."
