Google brings camera twists, bigger screens to Pixel phones

$800 for a non-Samsung or non-Apple phone is too rich, even if it comes from Google.

Above $700, only Samsung and Apple deserve to charge that much for a phone.

Obviously you have never used a Pixel. They are top of the line phones, on the same level, or higher than Apple/Samsung.

Having said that, nobody is mentioning the damn notch. This is a stupid design choice, and i really hope Samsung doesnt follow it.

I had a Pixel. Loved the OLED screen and great camera but bootloop bricked it. So I've had 2 Samsungs since and while the duplicate apps are annoying, its ok with 64Gb . So far (after 4 yrs) I only use Bixby for the morning alarm. I also don't use Google Voice or Siri. I lol at people trying to talk to the phone (although voice control might be best for driving_)

Google has sold an estimated 7 million Pixels over the past two years, almost imperceptible next to the 3.6 billion phones shipped during that time, according to IDC. Apple alone sold 388 million iPhones during the same period.

Those numbers are staggering really.

No SD slot is a major no no for any phone these days unless you are trying to control everything by offering free cloud services which will end up being "not so free". 64GB or 128GB with a 4K camera and other assorted memory storage hungry apps is never going to be enough. Go on holidays for more than 10 days and you'll quickly find out.

I'm still rocking the original Pixel XL two years in, and I'm very pleased with the phone. It's smooth like an iPhone, but with all the customization to suit your needs. I've had no issues at all with the phone. I use to use Samsung phones (Note 4 Edge was the last one I used), but got tired of the lag and the uninstallable bloatware from both Samsung and DoCoMo. I thought I would miss the SD slot, but I realized I'm never going to use 128GB worth of storage as all photos and videos can be moved to the cloud at full resolution for free with the Pixel. I'm not a fan of the notch, so I wish Google will do away with it in future releases.

No it's not. Just buy the capacity of phone that you require in the first place. SD slots just offer higher opportunity of water ingress etc.

2020hindsights, on Samsungs at least the SD card slot is in the same opening as the sim card slot. So unless they are going pure eSIM already, it would be no different whether the SD card option is there or not.

Not sure if newer phones have fixed this or not, but at least even on the S8, copying large files to the microSD and then putting that SD into my PC is still the fastest and most reliable method of getting stuff to/from my phone (talking about moving 40+gb of data
