This one of the most anticipated device. Though there are big players lined up with there new model for launch this would have made an impact. Maybe google faced the same pressure with the glasses. Expectations and hype could make it a flop. Even moto could have made much more difference it had been with google. Hosting a event like apple pre launch would make it lots of difference for a new product.

Strangerland: Google probably realized that ...

I'm thinking the companies that manufacture most Android phones told Google: "Nope. Get that thing outta here."

Another thought that comes to mind is that if every component has its own case, that could add significantly to the weight and volume of the assembled product. Considering how squashed down the insides of a cellphone are.

Even just a removable battery could have saved the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. #1 thing I look for is a battery I can replace.

Can't imagine why Android's direct customers, the manufacturers of smart phones, wouldn't jump all over a new phone that would smash the current scheme, which makes a cracked screen so difficult to repair the owner has to send phone in for repair or buy a new one.

I'm guessing economics. Google probably realized that either it couldn't manufacture the phones/parts for a price that would make the phone competitive on the market, or they found that they could, but because of the extended lifespans, they'd lose out on profits over time due to lower sales.

A shame. Another cool idea that would have allowed customization... Into the hopper.
