Waiting for the iPad to have the same body design like the iPhone 4/4s. Hopefully the body design will be different next year. Otherwise, not buying iPad.

Apple stuff are really enticing. I just had to look at the 13-inch Air to start having this crave for it: I mostly use my Macbook, but the Air is so thin and functional, I will buy it by the end of the year. You guys with the white Macbook: keep it, it will be expensive memorabilia in some years.

I only use my iMac and iPad now for computing. MacBook gathering dust and iPhone is only used for calls or when I go out without a bag. And my iPod is somewhere in a drawer. Once you get an iPad you will see how wonderful it is. Most of my apps are free and the most expensive one was $8

Watching ipad a long time may hurt your neck. Some users buy a stand for the ipad and make it kind of downgraded netbook.

Softbank network congestion?

Anyone experiencing network slowdowns on Softbank's network today? Just wondering if it could be attributed to the many happy consumers who are snapping up the new iPads today.

iPads are cool and suck, as in suck your cash. They are also basically cash machines for Apple, because once you buy one, you will continue paying Apple at every turn, apps, cover, USB port (only used for importing pictures), HDMI port, and on an on.

iPads are called the walled garden. They are great if you are happy in the garden. If you need to transfer a file to a friend, then you are out of luck. If you want your pictures off the thing, expect a huge hurdle (I haven't been able to do it yet). If you want to transfer a movie to the iPad, you have to be on iTunes. There are supposed to be ways to get around the file import issue with apps like iFiles for $10. However, even that app doesn't work all the time. I jailbroke my iPad, which allows you to download youtube videos, change the theme, unlock the sim card, etc. Still, I don't have the 3G version to benefit from an unlocked sim card, so the biggest benefit was the youtube video being unlocked, after spending $10 on the app from the jailbreak store.

If don't need to look cool, don't need protection from yourself when using an electronic device, or need something fully functional (no walls or big brother telling you what you can do with your expensive device), check out the Android tablets.

I have an iPad 2 and wish I would have bought a similarly priced Android. I bought an Asus Eee Transformer for my wife.

Aside from the form factor (it is cool), I like the Asus Android tablet better (I can do anything I really want with that machine) and got it for JPY25,000. It came with 16GB internal, a microSD card slot, to have as much memory as I need, and a mini-HDMI port. The dock with keyboard has an SD card slot and extends the battery from 10 hours to 16+.

My 32GB iPad 2 cost JPY55,000 and I had to pay a bunch of cash for apps to get it working somewhat the way I wanted.

=====

If you do buy the new iPad, I would suggest buying the 64GB model. The new screen will increase app size requirements and eat through your iPad's memory. I am already juggling apps to stay within the 32GB of my iPad 2. The problem will only get worse with the new iPad.

“I am an iPad samurai!”

So is he ready to commit seppuku if his computer breaks down?

I waited for this for 36 hours

Wow, I wish I had time like that to waste.

A tablet can be very useful even for work with the right apps, but most people just use them for e-mail, web browsing, video/music, ebooks, and you don't need a powerful PC for that, but that's exactly what a lot of people would get before. You'd call a tech savvy friend to help you pick a gaming-capable PC or even build one for you only to end up using it just to surf the web. Now people just get a tablet or a smartphone and everyone can be a tech geek and part of the "post PC" era.

CactusJack - Sounds like Apple products have a lot of updates. Glad I don't have any.

Your loss mate! Or are you trying to say Windoze products don't have software updates? Really?

The best thing about the release of the new iPad is, the price drop for older models. There is no way I would pay so much for a new one, but I can buy S/H older versions for a very good price. Yeah!

I forgot to mention that I also use it heavily on the train for my hour ride to work / home. It has some great sketching tools(Adobe Ideas) that I can use to draw out ideas or even just doodle (without wasting paper), I can write in my diary, and I can also put down other ideas whether their song lyrics, an excel file, power point, or synth lines. All of this on that little guy you are hating on so much. Plus when I use it on the train I'm not jabbing my elbows into my fellow passengers like the tools with their laptops.

well, I use my iPad at work. It keeps me from having to lug a heavy laptop everyday. While I do agree that there are a lot of people that just buy every new model, there are as many if not more people that buy one and get their full use out of it before upgrading. I had an apple laptop I bought it 2007 and bought a new one last year. Same thing with my phone. Had it for 2 almost 3 years and then upgraded to the 4s last year. I won't get the 5 when it comes out this year. Although I'd like to have the more powerful iPad 3 with the retina display it's highly unlikely I'll get it unless I can sell my 2. What I don't understand is why people have such a problem with people buying things that make them happy. Silly to them or not. Everyone has their hobby or thing that they're into. Stop spreading misery and go find your thing and MOVE ON.

Apple is like a cult, people mindlessly getting a new model every year which just seems slightly more updated form the model they have already. Can someone tell me what the appeal is? I use my laptop to go online and watch movies and my phone to ring and text. What is it about these iCrap things that send people into such a frenzy?

i love apple tech, but i really dont get the necessity to buy a new gadget just for resolution. i mean, thet are not going from black and white to color screens. to each his own i guess..

Kind of interesting. Yesterday a new 5.1 update/upgrade came out. So all these people are buying old software.

Yesterday the update would not work on my iPhone, iPad and in my laptop. I checked for other updates as I do weekly, and iTunes needed to be updated. So they will have to do that too.

I just got the updated update, and it worked in my phone. WIll do the iPad later.

Good luck and have fun updating your brand new iPad 3.

Oh, by the way, the update has SIRI for Japanese in it.

My friend said that he would have camped out for five days to get that iPad.

"I wouldn't have camped out for five days even if I was.....camping!"

I really hope there won't be any cases of violence when the stocks run out with people still waiting in the queues.
