Huawei is like the early Samsung before it became too big and the prices of their phones skyrocketed. There isn't much differences between phones these days and from a price point, Huawei gives you the most bang for your buck so its natural for them to be popular even with the US sanctions. Many people don't see the value in pay $1,200+ for a phone when you can get the same thing under a different name for $400 to $600.

Samsung has a phone for every budget. Including those that compete with the cheapest budget phones to the very top-end.

Whatever happened to Japanese phones?

So Chinese and Korean companies sales up, US Apple's down and Japanese companies looking from the sidelines. They would not embrace Android OS, now 89% of the market, until it was too late

Whatever happened to Nokia?
David Van Cleef
They licensed off their mobile phone brand (current "Nokias" are not made by Nokia) .

The US Sanction wasn't to prevent Huawei from succeeding in business; it was to keep the CCP's electronic spies away from American infrastructures. The US couldn't care less if Huawei is "world's No. 2" . As long as they stay out of US and key allies' country.

The problem with Japanese phone makers is not with their phones; it's their marketing. Outside of Japan, they are not marketed as aggressively as Apple, Samsung and Hua-china government spy machine-wei.
IMHO, Sony's Xperia is every bit as good as the others; just not marketed as much (outside of Japan).

We know they exist. I think the original statement,
It’s about their market presence in and outside Japan. Apple holds 68% of the smartphone market in Japan while Sony and Samsung are both at 7%. I see more ads by apple and Samsung on Japanese TV. You’d expect Japanese brands to aggressively advertise their own products domestically.
