Hmm living in semi rural area I don't see a need for backup camera and avoidance systems. I can see a deer when they walk out into the road. If a tree falls no tech will help with that. And, it'll make for worse drivers when they have to think on their own.

This is aimed at s***ing the consumer. Automotive repairs and parts at dealers are through the roof already. Soon, motorists will be told to junk their cars after a dented fender.
Automakers are complaining that their market is shrinking in the wealthy countries due to high end costs of car ownership, so they are shooting themselves in the foot for the sake of short-term profit.
