What leverage does Beijing have? That’s tough talk but can they deliver?

Leverage ? Uh... imprison your Mainland based Family/Friends, come up with a Scandal about a recent visit you may have made, you name it... its in the CCP Playbook.

The US Should force all Internet providers to disconnect China from the Internet. This would be the Global equivalent of the China Firewall, but in Reverse - do onto them as they do onto you...
mmwkdw
OK, so you may argue this isnt any different from what the US has done Globally with their Sanctions... but the DIFFERENCE is... the US and most other Western Countries operate with a level of scrutiny, beit from Press or other Organisations which can raise questions and promote awareness of issues, In China... any form of questioning is met with total eradication - either of yourself, or your whole Family.... the Body parts trade is still active in China, and thats not somewhere that you wish to end up in line for.

Here's a good example of China's own Firewall in action... I use WeChat from time to time, if I try to relate a current news story to a person based in China, they will not receive it, even though they can interactively be typing to me and confirming they have not received it.... other messages are received without issue.

So the government should determine what content the people are allowed to see? I thought you guys supposedly hated censorship. Your team seems to complain about it enough on this site. Yet so many of your team are promoting censorship.

You can't disconnect China from the internet, the money opportunity between the wealthy of both countries are more important than any concerns of privacy or freedom. (Look at the backlash of China and the NBA when a coach decried the injustice against HK). While it's true that China censors any negative information about itself, it believes the Orwellian way is the path to a utopia and world leadership/control. The people gave away their freedom willingly for the promise of safety, and there is no wrong in that, depending on the culture. We can see in America that too much freedom can bring instability and chaos, but also a certain kind of happiness and advancement in social change for humanity. - めんどくさい

China is influencing the US government. Forcing Tik Tok to sell is state intervention on the level of the CCP.

If Tik Tok is global Internet player, and if by being Chinese is a problem in an important market, why not move the Head Quarter of the company to Canada or the EU? The ownership would be maintained and the questions with India or USA would have a different approach. It´s an opinion.

Yeah, right.

*Some variants of the app had GPS pinging enabled at the time, roughly once every 30 seconds - this is enabled by default if you ever location-tag a post IIRC*
*They set up a local proxy server on your device for "transcoding media", but that can be abused very easily as it has zero authentication**
Still think the ccp communist DICTATORSHIP isn't monitoring the millions of young American "influencers" for political manipulation and to monitor government employees as well as how much money you have in your bank ?
