So the businesses will have the means to know who to put specific adds depending on popularity but your friends and followers wouldn't !!! Thank you FB - you are shootings yourself in the leg...

I for one do not want this on Instagram! I see it as a way to influence opinion through manipulation of the numbers. Watch how liberal posts suddenly appear to be more popular via suppression of non-liberal opinions and posts!

What does 'know who to put specifics adds' mean? I can't understand what exactly the complaint is here.

When you spend your life trying to manipulate others, you spend all your time thinking others are trying to manipulate against you.

If they choose to do so, they can already do that - with or without making the # of likes public

Don't ya think they can't already artificially change the # of likes if they choose to do so?

Whether that # is made public or not - it wouldn't matter

Thank goodness for that, I guess now reporters will have to look elsewhere for news instead of quoting trivia from the most 'like' posts, for example from celebrity pages etc

You can still see user's LIKES even though it's hidden — this can be seen through Phlanx "Instagram Likes Calculator" they have a free calculator that shows the likes count per post, just created today exclusive for brands who still need to use likes to check if the influencers suit their brands.
