@Pukey, why don't you read a little bit about what Open Radio Access Network is. UK already has 5G but the way it is currently implemented all over the world, one company has to build a complete vertically integrated network with proprietary hardware, user devices, network and software. With Open RAN there will be common software and network standards that dis-aggregate telecom. A network could be built with hardware from multiple suppliers each building their hardware to operate on a common software and network standard. No more having your cell phone locked to one network. Network providers benefit by being able to buy from multiple suppliers and suppliers benefit from being able to specialize in a segment of the market rather than having to be a ZTE or Erickson who builds all the hardware and writes all the software. Very few companies make complete systems but quite a few companies excel in certain aspects who are currently locked out of big networks .
