Apple has seen its hay days with Steve Jobs' endless engine. But Apple's creative and innovative products with an icon "i" phenomenon has sped up a process of innovation on other electronic device makers.

I want one. I feel sorry for Jobs. Too young to be so sick.

There are a lot of smart people at Apple. I am sure, Jobs or no Jobs, Apple will continue to be innovative and will continue to produce stellar products.

I am not a fan of the ipad, but my Powerbook, iMac and iPhone 4 are wonderful machines that help me get things done reliably. Far superior to the reliability of Windows based machines.

Why in such a nice event one have to always compare with Windows platform?

I don't hate Apple but 95% of the devices used in this world are NON Apple related and still most of us use them reliably!

Don't forget how proprietary and closed system is Apple-world with all the good and bad consequences with it!

I prefer freedom even though not so polished...

Congratulations to the fans anyway - they have new toy to rage about ;-)

“Overall, the big message today is that Apple is offering a version 2 device while everyone else is still attempting to ship their first version 1 devices,” said Yankee Group analyst Carl Howe.

Unless you don't count the Samsung Galaxy Tab, which announced the newest version last month.

I'm no Apple fan but it's good to have them in the market driving innovation. I'm sure this new iPad will be super popular as well. Hope Jobs gets better, though from what I read about his health that seems unlikely.

I feel sorry for Jobs, hopes he gets better. Thing is, Ipad is very functional. And Apple is the Mercedez Benz of tech world: it does everything other cars do, but they do with style and luxury. Can't imagine myself carrying a Xoom or a Galaxy...

Very easy to forget, since it impacts performance not at all - except perhaps in a good way.

lol - like the freedom to ride a bike through the back streets, while the Apple Mercedes is 'confined' to the highway. That's OK.

I think there's good and bad to the approach. It depends on how you like to use your products. The experience is great with iPad/iPhone but I don't like having to jump through hoops to copy data directly to/from the device and I don't like having to reformat media to fit Apple's limited standards.

But certainly using the devices is great once those hurdles are overcome.

I'm getting one.... at some point.

I am waiting for iPad 6 to come out before I get one....and it will probably be around Christmas time 2012.

Just waiting for my iPhone 5

I'll purposely not watch the keynote, as Jobs' Reality Distortion Field is too much for me.

For all the Apple nay-sayers, Google "Apple Death Knell Counter"

I want my iPhone on KDDI au.

Think au.

The iPad2 seems useful, but I still want a Federation style tricorder.

(Apple products) have sped up a process of innovation on other electronic device makers.

Actually, it's the other way round. Apple tends to be a tech late-comer. Intel processors, tablets, smartphones, Mp3 players, etc...they were all around years before Apple rolled out comparable products. Apple doesnt innovate. It refines and markets for its zombie-lemming following.

Same for me, waiting for the "au" iPad2 Wi-Fi+3G. Hate softbank...

@Cleo: the condescending tone and single-sided point of view sound a bit unusual from you...

To be back on the subject, the iPad is a very interesting phenomenon and I am looking forward to seeing what the experience can be on the 2nd version. Also, to add my share of oil in the Apple-NonApple troll fire, I personally use on a daily basis MacOS, Windows and Linux in the computer world, and other various solutions for various aspects of mobile technology... So saying Apple is a Mercedes and anything else a piece of junk appears to be as valid an argument as saying that people who take the train instead of owning a luxury car are lame. As for performance or productivity, maybe Google doesn't put as much money into the marketing of android as Apple, but what I hear from the people around me using both is not so much in favor of iOS. As for the hardware, we might as well get started on abstract art before finding a definition of what looks good and what are the right specs.

Apple products are cool, even sexy, and usually do not disappoint. Their price tag is usually a bit too high, and that doesn't mean they are perfect or unbeatable. Let us not dismiss what bogva meant by freedom, because I think I know what he is talking about, and I am pretty sure you don't.

Can you browse the world wide web on this thing yet?

or does it presume the only videos you watch are from youtube and you need a separate app to boot.

Is this just a perfectly ok (when working) large sized app device?...saw some try to include it in counting computer sales recently.

888naff...get one...you won't regret it.

I use my iPad to teach in my classes...not only do I love my work more because of it, but my students are showing an 80% increase in interest in learning English.

Doing presentations on this thing is a pleasure. Using it as an organiser is becoming a habit. In the 80's we had the Filofax...a lot of people used it, a lot of people hated it. The iPad is much like the Filofax and then some!

Steven Jobs did a great "Jobs" for himself and at least for his shareholders, after his show, Apple's stock has gained a couple of dollars. How many shares do you own now? cash it or hold it ..... Smartphone and tablet markets have a short-life cycle, Steve jobs knows it ....

Still no USB?

Xinef: your point of view is a bit confused and confusing, don't you think so?
