If you don't pay for a cloudy service, then you are the product being sold.

After agreeing with their ToS, you are using the service they offer for free. You are using part of their infrastructure to communicate with someone. YOU are the product being sold.

Exactly, but most people don't seem to realise this. It's free, they think it's their right. We have pretty much nothing like the GDPR here - no, APPI is vague and a joke. People don't care about their online privacy, they don't care their data is being sold and they are OK with that, as long as the apps released in here are all flashy, with lots of banners, campaigns and other visual polution.

When it comes to stuff like this, don't just US companies either. I wouldn't/don't.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato said...,

These Government Officials are so hypocrites! 4 or 5 years ago the pension data including bank details of many Japanese was given to a Chinese company under this same LDP Government! That was far worse than this!

I am very surprised they brought the fact of the data mismanagement to public themselves.

Japanese LDP cronies talk loudly about anti-China acts but they secretly shake hands for millions of dollars from the Chinese instead.

It is all a facade! LDP has always been selling out Japan for the highest foreign bidders as their children quietly flee and live in the West.

Shocking. A Japanese company who is unable to secure its data. Can't be possible.

WHEN YOU SEE CHINA how can you trust anything?

I would but if I'm in China then google is blocked.

Since 2012, Google and all of its services (such as Gmail, Google Drive, Google Maps and Google Play) have been blocked and are not accessible to users located in Mainland China.

Outside China in democracies, if a govt wants access to data that a private company has, they have to request it. If the private company thinks the request is unreasonable, then they can say no and go to court. This usually happens when the govt asks for large amounts of data that aren't for a specific individual. Targeted data requests to locate serious criminals usually get approved. It is the difference between fishing with 1 line and 1 hook, vs fish in huge nets and ending up with a few tonnes of fish, when only 1 exact fish was the goal.

Reading all those comments about China makes me laugh how much comment has no content, just blame and smart..

It seems people here think only China cannot be trusted but it is the same for other countries. Not long time ago America was monitoring Eyrope illigally. Rusland was interfering by putting fake news on Facebook. Google is collect data and come often in news with leaks or improper handling of big data.

Secondly line is a technology company and 100% free of issues doesn't excised. But most of you know better.
