So consulting firm wants to take some of the merit based systems out of team building to increase diversification. Yeah, that's a pretty bad move there. Why not keep reaching everyone younger, yes everyone, encouraging the competitive spirit of life.

LOL. Good point. Science doesnt seem so "macho", compared to most industries. Maybe the image I have of Sheldon and his little Jewish sidekick is just a stereotype?

Meanwhile I am waiting for the companion article about the low levels of female participation in ditch digging & other manual labour sectors...…….somehow I think I will be waiting for a very long time....wonder why....be honest ladies tell us why you show no interest in doing manual labour or anything outside a cushy office environment...….I know there are a few of you out there(& I thank you) but SURELY there needs to be more participation, the female point of view etc etc...…...how about it....

No, a lot more women are interested in tech. I say this as a guy in tech.

This I agree with. I hope people aren't thinking we're going to somehow be able to tweak the system to end up with a 50/50 breakdown of men:women in tech.

Not as surprised as you think - I dated a nailist for a number of years.

Some men are into it. But very, very few.

Then she would know that nail salons that cater to male hosts, goths, visual-Kei, and cosplayers is a niche market where the demand hugely outweighs the supply.

Ok... your point being?

My point being that there are men interested in industries that are female dominated and vice-versa.

These industries however, will not change overnight for a minority unless its profitable.

It's not the Macho culture, but the Japanese Work Culture. I am amazed to still see Women making tea and doing Secretarial like tasks for their Bosses or even Peers. One has to wonder if it's their fault for accepting that role and whether they should simply say "Not my Job mate!" now and then.
