Amazon Prime has been around for longer. Pro versions of free software are common. I'm happy to be 'lower caste' and continue with the free service. If people want to buy a new iThing every year, wear designer clothes and own an expensive watch, that is their business. It's good that wealthy conspicuous consumers self-identify in such a manner. It helps the rest of us avoid them.
