Despite underwhelming sales of its previous games consoles in Japan, Microsoft Corp has remained true to its promise of bringing Xbox One to the Land of the Rising Sun, and on Tuesday announced an official release date and price point.
A new page on the Xbox Japan website confirms that Microsoft’s newest home console will finally go on sale in Japan on Thursday, Sept 4.
The console will retail for 49,980 yen with the Kinect camera in the box, or 39,980 yen without, reflecting Microsoft’s recent SKU changes in the U.S.
A Siliconera report also states that Japanese launch titles will include the following:
Forza Motorsport 5, Kinect Sports Rivals Dead Rising 3 Ryse: Son of Rome Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition Thief Murdered: Soul Suspect Call of Duty: Ghosts
Will Japanese gamers be tempted by Microsoft’s new console, or will its belated launch, coupled with the fact that gamers here traditionally prefer Sony’s platform, result in sales as underwhelming as its predecessor? We’ll find out this summer, but most likely gamers’ reactions to the console and the titles available to play at Tokyo Game Show 2014 will be a fair indication.

It's gonna sell less than the 360. 5man? And look at the launch titles. MS trying to save face rather than bucks?

Erm why aren't the Japanese getting Titanfall? Kind of dumb Microsoft since it's your best selling title for the system.

Titanfall is available in Japan, played it at my local Yodobashi. They got a testing/trial station for the latest consoles.

As excited as I am to get my hands on an Xbox One, I'm glad they're releasing it later so I can have more time to put away the money for it.

Probably just sell it online only like some games.
