rebirth != better

Especially with that dreaded Metro UI...

" Ballmer described Windows 8 as the “deepest, broadest and most impactful” Windows software ever created by the US tech giant, "

Hasn`t MS claimed that for every single new version?

Have heard this before! Does anyone remember the Zune? I thought not!

Yes, and as a noted Engineer once said " and if my grandma had wheels, she'd be a wagon!" I just installed WIndows 7 and it seems to be the best Op sys todate. Good luck with clouds.

promising the “best economic opportunity” for device makers and app developers who adopt the new system.

and that is all that this is about, extracting as much money as possible from as many people as possible to line the pockets of this bunch of money hungry rogues.

There is nothing wrong with the way XP works and Windows 7 has only just been released so I do not know why we need 8.

I will resist buying this version for as long as possible.

Skype powered by Windows8 - who wants to bet that it will not work on anything else, BUT Windows 8? Typical Micro$oft practice... First they killed the Skype for Linux, next there has been no update on the Skype for Android, next the Skype for Windows8 will only be compatible with Skype running on Windows on a Micro$oft hardware...

MS is making me sick!! They better not mess with my dear and beloved Skype!!!!!!

rehash is a better word

Microsoft requires that machines conforming to the Windows 8 logo program and running a client version of Windows 8 ship with secure boot enabled. Hence, your PC can't run Linux.

Question, how is Apple Windows Rival considering Windows is used by 75% of computer users, and Apple by 9%

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ironic people are complaining about Windows making software ONLY work with windows, is that not what Apple does with ALL its software

Rebirth? Sounds more like cloning.

"Rival Apple already offers such a service"

That's all that needs to be said regarding anything new from MS -- well, except for the 'service' of providing heaps of flaws that allow viruses in.

Especially with that dreaded Metro UI...

How is it dreaded Thomas? It has been getting a lot of positive feedback, more positive then negative feedback.

The Metro UI is perhaps alright on a pad or a phone, on a desktop it sucks squirrels through a mile long straw.

it sucks squirrels through a mile long straw.

hahaha, I loved this.

Where? When? I haven't seen a single positive feedback yet. The best feedback is lukewarm.

I probably buy Windows 8 phone in the future, so I'll be using this and probably even like it -IN MY PHONE-. In the desktop I want to choose my own programs and multitask them elegantly. I don't remember that anybody requested windows 1.0 GUI back.

If MS gets its hands on Skype, Skype will die. The weakest link of my Apple computer is the Windows side of it. The ONLY reason I have Windows loaded on my Apple is so I can use MS FSX. I love to fly. That's the ONLY reason and I'm almost tempted to take it down and give up the hobby. Sad.

Tom DeMicke

If MS gets its hands on Skype,

Too late, they already have their paws all over it.

On 10 May 2011, Microsoft Corporation agreed to acquire Skype Communications, S.a r.l for US$8.5 billion.[19] The company was incorporated as a division of Microsoft, and Microsoft acquired all of the company's technologies with the purchase. This was completed on 13 October 2011.[19][20]

rebirth itself is not possible. a trade idea let the stock pump until launch then dump it

Hey Microsoft is entitled to dream. I don't think Windows 8 will make them a huge success in the mobile market nor the PC market but hey they are entitled to give it their best shot. Apple will still kick them in the nuts !

Every time Microsoft brings out a new version of Windows or Office, they take away useful basic features and introduce a mass of new bloatware with steep learning curves for no perceptible benefit. What I'd like from Microsoft is stable versions of Windows XP + Office 2003 with all the bugs fixed. I think I already paid for that. After all these Windows versions, they still can't even produce a file manager that works properly. And all those multi-megabyte critical updates are the software equivalent of having your car recalled every day.
