I LOL'd at the PR spin that Tami put on the update.

“Windows 8.1 furthers the bold vision of Windows 8 by responding to customer feedback and adding new features and functionality that advance the touch experience and mobile computing’s potential,”

Translation: "There were so many complaints that we had to stop what we were doing and address some of them or face losing the OS altogether."

Posted from their Windows tech website:

"Improvements have been made to better support users who prefer a mouse and keyboard experience to access applications."

Yea... blame the users. They should have researched this before releasing a dramatically-changed UI. They actually thought that desktop users would use their fingers to work. Hey, we need a finger for nose-picking and scratching our heads. Jesh.

I'm as luddite as they come, yet I have no trouble navigating Win8 without a "start" button. Why is moving your mouse to the bottom corner of the screen and switching to the metro screen when you want to open something such a chore?
