Musk on Monday accused Apple of also having "mostly stopped advertising on Twitter."

"Do they hate free speech in America?

No, they are afraid of offending customers and losing their business.

Elon Musk will have to fall in line behind the EU commission in other contentious areas.

Antitrust: Commission sends Statement of Objections to Apple over practices regarding Apple Pay

The one area EU commission hits the sweet spot is antitrust.

Anyone who upsets the Apple Cultists can't be all bad.

im certainly no Apple fan , but if you upset your advertisers they just pack up and take their money to other platforms, money talks BS walks as Musk is finding out

Cook vs Musk. I could watch that one.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

All top advertisers have cancelled.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Musk is on a bridge to nowhere.

The twitter with hardly any staff is going to war with a fully staffed Apple. Another bad Musk decision and another loss.

Apple threatens to pull Twitter out from the app store but doesn't have the courage to say why? It's not rocket science to say that it's politically motivated. It's not the first time an incident like this has occurred. It happened with Parlor not too long ago, but unlike Twitter who is owned by the wealthiest man, Parlor was a low budget app that got crushed by the tech giants. But I highly doubt that will happen to Twitter.

Musk on Monday accused Apple of also having "mostly stopped advertising on Twitter."

"Do they hate free speech in America?" he asked, before replying with a tweet tagging Apple CEO Tim Cook.

Elon sweetie, Apple saying they don't want to play your game IS free speech.

Anyone who upsets the Apple Cultists can't be all bad.

I suppose you'd call me an Apple cultist. I use my Apple desktop mac, iPad, iPhone, Apple watch, every single day, no problems, no complaints.

Never posted on Twitter, never will, never see a tweet unless it's quoted somewhere else.

I feel sorry for all the folk losing their jobs and their investments, but apart from that it wouldn't upset me at all if the platform sank beneath the waves. Probably wouldn't even notice.

If Elon-chan wanted to get rid of his money (as he seems intent on doing), instead of just chucking it away and wrecking other folks' livelihoods into the bargain, he could just donate clumps of it to charity. That would be a lot more useful. And give him something worth tweeting about.

Apple threatens to pull Twitter out from the app store but doesn't have the courage to say why? It's not rocket science to say that it's politically motivated.

It's pretty obvious why they don't want to be associated with a toxic brand. What political about it? Big, successful firms do not lend their name and reputation to tainted brands.

At the moment we only have Musk's word that Apple is threatening to do this. If they do, I'm sure they can find several good reasons given the debacle that Musk has instigated so far.

Alienating your wealthiest advertisers, completely demoralizing your workforce and annoying your customers in a few short weeks is some going.

Man who charges £17k for a car battery complains about Apple’s 30% fee. OK

In the war between virtue signaling Apple oligarchs with factories with suicide nets, and right-wing culture war cultivating oligarchs; we lose.

The billionaire CEO also tweeted that Apple has "threatened to withhold Twitter from its App Store, but won’t tell us why."

What brand would want to be associated with holocaust denial, racism, misogyny, doxing and crank theories ?

Is Nike about to start throwing monkey emojis about ? Is Whole Foods going to blame price rises on the great replacement theory ?

For a 'bright' guy he sure is dumb.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

The rules for Apple and Google apps apply to all. Don’t want to follow then you are cancelled. But at the moment it’s only Musk’s make believe.

Cancelling their advertising is that all companies are doing.

Describing himself as a "free speech absolutist,"

I wonder if he allows his kids to say anything they want. I think most of us learned from our parents that we are not free to say anything out loud.

I think most of us learned from our parents that we are not free to say anything out loud.

Sorry, that may be a bit unclear. I hope we are free to say some (most) things out loud. I meant to say that we are not free to say anything we want out loud.

It's pretty obvious why they don't want to be associated with a toxic brand.

And who is responsible for the toxic brand, definitely not Musk. Now If Musk sell's it back to Dorsey, than it won't be a toxic brand, right.

If Twitter follows the rules of Apple and Google the app won't get pulled.

Apple was Twitter’s biggest ad buyer during the first quarter of 2022. An ad buys amounting to $48 million in Q1 meant Apple accounted for a whopping 4% of Twitter’s total revenue for the quarter:

With Twitter's reach in the public space especially the media, it sounds like the battle of two Titans. In reality, with Apple's market capitalization, market penetration for phones and apps, just everything. This is the cock roach picking a fight with the elephant.

Elon is going to quickly see the limits of bluster if he hasn't already burned the company to the ground before he gets there (which is the most likely outcome anyway).

Apple and Google are not going to hang with a firm that empowers hate and hate is Twitter's entire business model at the moment.

It’s amazing to see how uneducated Musk is about pretty much everything not related to an electric car.

It’s entertaining to watch him dig his grave though.

Sometimes decisions come down to what customers want and not what one man wants.

Social media is a minefield. It’s poisoned by manipulative practices in social behavior.

Apple threatens to pull Twitter out from the app store but doesn't have the courage to say why?

Apple said exactly why. Twitter's content moderation does not meet their standards for an app acceptable to be sold through their store.

Or rockets. He's an engineer. And he's on the Autism spectrum. 'Nuff said.

He has a B.S. in physics and B.A in economics.

The only way Musk has any chance of not destroying Twitter by getting the app kicked off the Apple store, is if Twitter releases a phone/app store. And even then, only those who are choosing the ideological battle of Elon will switch, as it's unlikely any Twitter phone would be up to par with an Apple phone for number of years.

Musk may be the world's richest man, but Apple is the world's richest company.

Excellent, very good for Apple..

You have to teach Elonald a lesson..

GO APPLE !!!..

All top advertisers have cancelled.

Musk is on a bridge to nowhere.

Elonald is destroying Twitter..

Musk haters and Apple defenders. I suppose they'd defend anyone who is against Musk. I do wonder how it sits in their minds that Apple is also defending, and helping, the Chinese "communist" government to stop the new protest movement before it grows anymore.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Musk/Twitter vs Apple reminds me of a situation a few years back when the Catholic Church and the CCP were butting heads over appointing Bishops to China; two opaque, inscrutable and highly authoritarian entities butting heads and vying for power.

Musk haters and Apple defenders. I suppose they'd defend anyone who is against Musk

You know, it's possible to approve of one thing someone does, and disapprove of another?

I've praised Musk for providing Starlink to Ukraine free of charge. It's been a huge help. But he's on a hiding to nowhere butting heads with Apple, and he seems hellbent on running Twitter into the ground.

Apple in the meantime is no paragon of virtue; they're in it for the money, obviously. But they do make exceedingly good, and for the most part secure, computers.

Try to look at the big picture, instead of just picking sides.

One of the most ideological posters on this site, making an ideological comment, complaining about ideology...

But they do make exceedingly good, and for the most part secure, computers.

All they do is design and package, none of the technology is Apple's, same for the hardware, the OLED on the iphone is made by Samsung and is one/two generation behind the latest Samsung models, security is at par with android.

A bit like saying your Gran isn't the best cook on the block because she buys her ingredients from the shops and uses a recipe book. The end result is what matters.

no more secure than any other OS

Those updates come in as and when needed. Never been hacked. Meanwhile all the dodgy links supposedly sent to me by friends are the result of their Windows or Android being hacked. Never had that kind of email from a mac user.

Started with Windows in 1995 but ended by the beginning of the century. So many problems and time-consuming. Granted Windows is better these days but I changed to Macs and after that, I had no more problems allowing me to do my work instead of fixing the OS. All my Apple devices work in perfect sync.

Never needed to buy an app because the ones supplied by Apple do the job perfectly.

Musk/Twitter needs Apple much more than Apple needs Twitter.

Twitter has a website. Just set your browser to open at it, if you use it.

Apple has been a walled garden with machine gun posts for decades.

They were great machines in the early days, v. DOS, w.3.1 or W95, but by W98 it was better to escape the compound.

Android has always been a cheaper, freer and more generic mobile alternative. Generic is good - less barbed wire.

A 30% tax is a rip off. Even the Church only demanded 10% in tithes.

Musk has had a lot of bad publicity lately. This is an easy way of getting some good PR.

Market share, Q4 2022: Android: 71%. Apple: 28%.

Huh? Bit out of date there mate, that was 26 years ago. You think that MacOS is not a different thing altogether now?

works on custom h/w only

Which is why it always works efficiently without having screwy components.

still no more secure than any other OS.

Then why are windows machines hacked so much more than MacOS?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Context.

Market share, Q4 2022: Android: 71%. Apple: 28%.

Android is an OS, used by many companies. Apple is one company. You're doing one company, to the sum of every other company out there.

Samsung has the largest market share of Androids, at around 1/3 the Android market. 1/3 of 71% is about 24% of the overall mobile market - so Apple has the largest market share of mobile phones for any company.

lol You have to go back eight and a half years to find something to complain about?

the classic Apple user base, literally have no idea of what happens behind the hood, as long the hood looks cool

I'm not an engineer or an IT expert, or a qualified vet or a doctor. I don't need to know 'what happens behind the hood' to use the appliances in my home, use my computer, look after my pets or look after myself on a day to day basis. If anything goes wrong, if anyone needs to go under the hood, I can call in the engineers, IT experts, the vet, the surgeon.

Most Windows users just get on with what they need to do with their computers, just like most Apple users, but there seems to be a type of Windows user who revels in what appears to me the unnecessary complexity of using Windows - Aha! I know what goes on under the hood! - a bit like the vintage car enthusiast who has to spend hours and hours keeping his vehicle roadworthy, when if the aim is to get from A to B as quickly, comfortably and efficiently as possible, it would surely be more sensible to get a modern car that is less likely to break down and need tending to.

the classic Apple user base, literally have no idea of what happens behind the hood, as long the hood looks cool

And what about the countless programmers who do develop on Macs? Do they have no idea what happens under the hood? Why would people versed in IT choose to use Macs if they don't know what's going on in IT?
