You fail to address the question of why such inspections are necessary.

It's taking an extra photo. When they want to take a blood sample, maybe I'll worry.

You also fail to notice the increase in invasive procedures ‘in the name of security’ all over the world such as body searches without privacy.

As a frequent air traveler both before and after 9/11, I am definitely aware of the increase in 'invasive' procedures in the name of security. But I also understand that air travel is a privilege, not a right, so I accept what is deemed necessary in the name of security. As of now, none of the procedures I've ever experienced have caused me any headache worthy of complaining about.

You're fingerprinted entering any country, not sure what you are even trying to say. I've never had an airport take DNA before, so it sounds to me like you are really grasping at straws with this.

How safely is that data protected?

It's your photo. As I already said, you are on video pretty much anywhere in the airport. You probably share more information on social media than any airport will ever have about you.

First, why on earth do you want to take a selfie in from of customs? Second of course there is no photography, it is a secure area!

I'm a member of the 'Global Entry' program here in the US. I was photographed, fingerprinted and interviewed. Now I can bypass customs and immigration whenever I return home. I have no problem with basic information being taken to ease my movement between countries. It's obvious that people just need something to complain about.

Immigration has already been passed by the time a custom’s inspection is necessary.

Why is it necessary for Customs to have your picture?

This is nothing but an invasion of privacy!

It is not your right to enter a country, you don't have privacy in an airport. Can you tell them not to open your bags when you reach customs? Good luck with your 'privacy'.

We already have this tech at Heathrow and it's not Apple or NEC.

Once again, everybody complains about having to go through the airport and having to deal with long lines and rude employees, but when the airport tries to make it go faster and have you deal with less people, you all complain about that too.

Go ahead, take my picture if it makes it easier to get through the airport. I'm not paranoid.

Apple already uses that tech... so who else has access to (or has already taken) that data ?

Big Brother is here, expect it to accelerate at an ever expanding rate, Control is the name of the game, and it's all over the Globe now. Japan is not the first for this facial recognition.
