Still only available in the US?

Is this for Japan? Doesn't work on my x-box or PC.

Why can't we get tech news about such things happening in JAPAN? I doubt anybody here cares about video services in the US, unless those services were coming here. Netflix isn't, I'm sure.

Says "Our systems indicate that the computer you are using is not located within the 50 United States or District of Columbia. Due to studio licensing reasons, movies are available to watch instantly only on computers in those locations."

Guys, you can get Netflix here...just depends on your connection...that is how I got the rest of my GoW2 DL's. Though, getting it here is very hard and you have to have a proper setup.

But you can't legitimately get it here. I don't think I could sign up with a Japanese address and credit card.

If you have a US credit card you can access/buy/download anything from the US Playstation Store, but I suspect Netflix wouldn't allow that. I would guess Netflix requires an IP address in the US, just like other video streaming services like Hulu. Xbox is the same- you can buy and download games with a US credit card, but not TV shows. Unfortunately legal access to US movies and TV shows not released in Japan remains elusive, no thanks to Netflix.

thats cool and all, but I am surprised they dont try to get blockbuster since microsoft already has netflix. Seems like sony would want to compete just for the sake of it. I have an american 360, but I have had a lot of trouble getting XBLA points beacuse mircosoft detects my japanese IP. I cant even get them through amazon com beucause they have the same restrictions (just buy an american point card through play asia dot com) So I am netflix would have the same restricions. But my ps3 network works just fine in Japan and I have a USA account for that too.

Well. I hope you all know about bittorrent because it basically solves all the problems of getting TV and movies. A lot of the times I can see the newest episodes of anything in HD the day they air in the USA. House, Heroes, Stargate Universe, Fringe. What ever. HD 720p eps in about 1 hour. free. I would watch the commercials if they had them. I kinda miss american commercials.

I'm perfectly fine with bittorrent as far as speed, availability, and convenience. The problem is it's not legitimate and it doesn't support the shows I watch in any way. I'd be happy to subscribe to Netflix (or visit other sanctioned online streaming sites that include commercials) if I could, but I can't. An expat can't win.

Very true and that was what I was hinting at.

@inkarob-why do you have problems with Amazon? I get the online code for my US MS points all the time. I even buy them for my friends so we can knock stuff out easier. ie, the new South Park Tower Defense game. I have never had to go to Play Asia yet, and their prices suck.

Only in the US, this does not apply to Japan or any PS3 around the world. Please write that in the article!

Why don't any Japanese firms allow people to do this yet? So much for advanced technology..

Oh, but there is a company that allows people to do this in Japan.

Well, it is a Japanese porn service for the PS3 that is very similar to the netflix service. I believe they have a free blu-ray to get access to the website and to stream the content. Wish a Japanese company would take the lead with non-porn movies or netflix would abandon these old distribution models.

Just tired of these marketing segment ploys that keep movies from coming out in Japan so late or DVD's and blu-ray disks at three times the cost in the US.

PS3 did make a bold move and made their US-Japan blu-ray disks the same region. You can buy a blu-ray game or movie from the US and it will be cheaper than a regular DVD bought here. Just wish breaking these trade obstacles would extend to the net and netflix.

I'd say it's more to do with licensing than technology problems...
