You weren't able to copy and paste until now?

"copy-paste" finally!!!

You weren't able to copy and paste until now?

You could cut and paste if it was jailbroken.

I've had cross-application cut-copy-paste on my pretty generic Toshiba phone from Softbank for years now. What's the big deal?

And i-Phone STILL doesn't offer the functions I really need, like e-wallet and a halfway-decent camera.

I agree, the only thing stopping me getting one is the camera- perfect 3 in 1 gadget if has decent resolution. Are you listening to me Steve Jobs? Hello?

Actually, there are some pretty good camera apps out there. You have to pay to get them. What a lot of people don't realize is the iphone is already physically capable of doing a lot of things. All the hardware is there in the phone. The problem is Apple are not allowing free third party applications to cut into their profits. They are trying to recover all the money that went into R&D. They are slowly allowing new applications to work on the iphone as it makes money. That is why many people jailbreak their phones. It allows you to upload programs, most which are free on regular cellphones. Especially applications most people get with their regular phones like cut and paste. Others you use on your desktop or laptop. I can do anything with my iphone now like a laptop since I jailbroke my iphone. Apple is just slowly freeing up the phone. Free apps doesn't make Apple money. If not then they won't let you put it on the phone, unless it is jailbroken.

I can also buy apps and music from itunes with no problems. Do the research before you finally jailbreak it.

a significant update

Only apple fans boys think cut-n-paste is an update... apple leave things out on purpose to make people upgrade.

There are many other new features, not mentioned in this article. Check out the Apple website or many other tech sites. Agreed they should have been on the iPhone 3G from day 1.

To Sk4ek; e-wallet is a Japanese-only hardware and the iPhone is marketed worldwide with no change in hardware. Perhaps in the future we will see custom models for different markets. One Seg tuner would be at the top of many Japanese wish lists no doubt. Perhaps with the new 3rd party hardware support, this could be achieved.

I am not sure why the author of this article was expecting flash photography capabilities? It is a software update after all. Perhaps they mistook Adobe Flash?

You'd have thought a feature like that, that phones have had for years, might have been included at the start.

Upon re-reading, the author was indeed referring to Adobe Flash. My apologies.

I thought about getting the free one here, but I use my AU so little as it is so damn expensive to use. Will stick to my laptop

Japanese mobile phones are the best !!!! iphones needs to step it up a bit.

It's still out-classed by the 0 yen docomo and softbank phones

biglittleman i get those things free on a japanese phone, i don't understand the hype

iPhone's advantage is the many apps once it's jailbroken. But Apple's always been tightfisted, just like with Macs. Apple won't approve it unless they're 100% sure it'll work 100% of the time. Stability under a dictatorship, as people say. Jailbreak allows chaos under a democracy. Depends on what the user prefers.

Anyways, without Adobe Flash, how does the iPhone view Youtube and many other streaming sites? Not to mention Flash-only webpages. I'm not a big fan of Flash myself, but it is becoming a necessary evil.

lostrune2: There is a youtube app that comes with it. If you view a youtube stream while browsing the app opens.

Basically apple doesn't want flash on the phone so that they can keep selling games from the store, if they include flash people could develop their own games and bypass apple... it's all about money, apple fans are blinded and think everything apple is amazing without realizing they are just taking your money.

Personally I would prefer a niconico application before Flash. And I would prefer SVG+JS before Flash too. And Java. And background apps (once they figure out the battery issues.)

There is a 3rd party flash site that is the work around. =View flash thru safari browser and a website.

the iphone in my opinion, is a glorified piece of crap, I cant do anything decent on it, i can emulate the commodore 64 on my nokia e61 and enjoy all those games of yore. I am going for the Omnia when my 26months are up

There is a oneseg tuner for sale in japan, they even showcased it here on JT. You want games, Jailbroken Iphone has a NES, PS2 emulator and games galore. I use the NES so I can play the classic Nintendo.

As far as I can remember you had to jump threw hoops to access the web on a japanese phone. Sorry I cant remember I have a prepaid cheepy for calls when Im in japan.

The new omnia is the shizzle i was going to buy one the other day but a customer of mine just gave me a new 3g iphone originally unlocked. I did do the jailbrake, and really think its better than the original 2g I have had for 2 years.

That's my point. Most folks who have an iphone don't no how to use it. If your phone was jailbroken it could do so much more. I can do almost anything a laptop can do now. I can emulate a PS1 and Nintendo game systems on my iphone (jailbroken). I can use it as sixteen GB flash memory for files. I can download bittorrents files on my iphone. And use those downloads immediately. I can even remote access my laptop at home. Can you do that with a Japanese keitai? Those that think that the iphone is crap are very foolish. Now it is just very restricted. It will be the next big standard after PCs and Macs. Once the third party apps restrictions are lifted you will see it is light years a head.

The Japanese phone is great for what most customers do with it. Email, text, surf web, sometimes TV and talk. Everything else they have another device (Ipod, PSP, DS). You only need an iphone. Japanese phones give you a lot more basic additions but they are trying to catch up to the iphone. That is one of the reasons they allowed it into the market. Too reverse engineer it and offer a reasonable alternative. The market is stiff for phones in Japan that is why they offer so much at the beginning. The problem is they are not going to put a lot of advanced capabilities in the phone because 1) the demographics only use it for basic functions 2) it will have raise the price(that is hard with so much competition).
