Nintendo sees dwindling impact from pandemic megahit game

Nintendo makes fantastic games. But they're too content to sit on long-selling titles and rehashes of previously released games (it seems like the majority of their output these days is updates or HD revisions of older titles). Of course, they've still got enough momentum and IP to stay massively profitable. But this situation won't last forever without some fresh blood.

Of course, the main jewels Super Mario and Zelda are the long time money generators, but that has not such a growing potential. Many gamers , or most?, want something more sophisticated and not always with that overspilling cuteness. If they identify themselves as a niche for very young ages and only that is the marketing target, ok. Otherwise they should consider to widen a bit the span of game genres at offer.

The total radio silence on the next Animal Crossing update certainly isn’t helping. They promised 2 years of updates but haven’t announced even a hint of a real update for months. The crappy communication is leaving a bad taste in many people’s mouths.
