Somehow I don't think the good old boys will flock to watch NASCAR races in which these cars compete. (Not to mention that the pit crews have got their work cut out for them, since recharging takes hours!)

Beelzebub, you just have slot-in battery packs for changes that would be faster than current refueling stops. But I think people will miss the noise of high powered engines. For 99% of us who drive our cars to work and back 5 days a week over a distance of less than 80 Km, the current electric cars would be just fine. Keep the second car as a hybrid for weekends and holidays.

Wow, parking meters with 220/240 Vac. What will they think of next.
If there are a few parking spots for electric cars only they would be quickly filled and it helps cities with pollution problems. The tide is slowly turning against gasoline cars.

electric cars, although squashd the first time around, are coming back, and because they are an obvious an intelligent alternative. They can prouce power, distance, and everything we like about cars, except the polution and the sound, which you can always record and put on your CD player if you need it so much. The new sound to love from a car will be from turbines

Had this been done roughly 20 - 50 years ago, we would not be facing the various problems caused by the pollution that we see around us.
