NTT DOCOMO on Thursday unveiled its 2013 winter/2014 spring lineup of mobile devices — including 10 smartphones, one tablet, two feature phones, one photo panel and two mobile Wi-Fi routers — which will launch in Japan on or after Friday.

Some of the features of the new lineup are as follows:

Nine smartphones and one tablet with 2,000mAh or greater large-capacity batteries for 50-72 hours, or longer, of typical usage for browsing, app use and talk time.

All smartphones and tablet compatible with DOCOMO's extra-high-speed XiTM LTE service, with eight models capable of 150Mbps maximum downlink in the 1.7GHz band.

First two mobile Wi-Fi routers equipped for Xi LTE service for maximum downlink of 150Mbps and Wi-Fi in the stable 5GHz band.

Nine smartphones and one tablet equipped with enhanced, energy-efficient single chip quad-core CPUs for maximized enjoyment of high-quality mobile games and video.

Nine smartphones and one tablet installed with docomo LIVE UXTM home screen application for seamless access between home screens and app list, and user-customized information and content displayed in a unique magazine format.

Nine smartphones and one tablet offering easy setup of new "docomo ID" universal user authentication, which works with multiple devices, operators and networks for convenient access to email, cloud address book and other DOCOMO mobile services.

Two collaboration smartphones featuring special designs and content created respectively with The Walt Disney Company (Japan) Ltd and Square Enix Co, maker of best-selling role-playing game DRAGON QUEST. SH-01F DRAGON QUEST, installed with "DRAGON QUEST VIII: Journey of the Cursed King," is limited to 30,000 units.

A second model in smartphone series tailored specifically for pre-teens, and two feature phones for conventional mobile users.

The 2013 winter/2014 spring lineup also includes wearable devices, including the wristwatch-type GALAXY Gear for voice calls and emailing when synchronized with a GALAXY smartphone, and the wristband-type move band for easy recording and tracking of health data, such as daily walking steps, calorie consumption and sleep hours.

Are they "Docomo smartphones"? Who actually makes them? Samsung? That's what consumers want to know

And that's what consumers will find if they so much as take a look at the phone. I don't get your point.

Great line-up, horrible carrier....there's just too much Docomo malware

exactly docomo bloatware is horrendous and equally bad are the skins Japaneses OEMs put on their phones. Samsung Touchwiz and HTC sense are bearable, but pick up a Fujistsu or Sharp and its just hideous. Luckily I have the 2 year old Galaxy Nexus that dococmo once sold, its free of crapware and runs stock android., so much better. I harbour hope that the 2013 Nexus 5 will be sold in japan, but its looks very unlikely. Got to give apple their due respect in this department- they forbid any adulteration, or crapware being added to their iphones.

Many among the commenter here were not in Japan during the Tohoku Earthquake (2011), Chuetsu Earthquake (2004), Offshore-Chuetsu (2006??), Hokkaido Earthquake and other major disasters in Japan.

All the network, landline and wireless had clogged after just one 3 minutes up to almost 24 hours. But the government agencies fiber optic connections and all cellular phones used by the Red Cross and Local governments were not clogged. They can use all their cellular phones asa normal, all the NTT registered landline as (government agencies) and most public phones were opened (NEVER BEEN CONGESTED).

My DoCoMo Smartphone 2 years ago already have 13.2MegaPixel, wireless charger and external SD Slot of up to 32GB capacity.

DoCoMo has the largest Bandwidth in the 800-MHz band, 1500MHz, 1700MHz, 1900, 2100MHz. DoCoMo LTE is 20-MHz Wide in each frequency band compared to the Softbank and AU.

Fiber-to-the -Antenna (or FTTA) infrastructure is more widely used in DoCoMo network.

The DoCoMo's Metropolitan Fiber Network CWDM/ DWDM and Submarine Cable using ROADM is the most ROBUST in Japan. Wireless network IS USELESS Basically if the Tier-3, Tier-2 and Tier-1 is CLOGGING.

DoCoMo has the most extensive backhaul and backbone from Tier-3 to Tier-1 network in Japan. In Tier-1 Fiber Network, DoCoMo controlled nearlyh 70% of nationawide backbone.

i think docomo's biggest mistake was trying to only have japanese manufactued phones. these phonese were blew away their american counterparts in the 1990s, but that's where they remained for quite some time. now they are pkaying a game of catch-up after first using samsung's galaxy and now finally with the iphone. seems like it's too little, too late.

Why would the JSDF rely on commercially owned bandwidth in a crises? Theyre going to use keitais when the north koreans attack, give me a break. At the end of the day, it is about software and content not just hardware and the backbone system is meaningless to a "consumer" picking out a keitai. If I really NEED comm, Ill buy a sat phone for total reliability anywhere, anytime. DoCoMo is losing customers even after picking up the iPhone - hilarious.

In fairness, most of these DoCoMo smartphone have hardware power equivalent to the upcoming iPhone 8S or 9/9S. Some even have 20MPixels of Camera and excellent dark environment image-capturing technology.

With the hardware power these new DoCoMo phones have, the unit could still be usable for a full-MultiTasking Android OS in the future.

Likewise, the Government of Japan (Department of Interior) and other departments, as perhaps even the Armed Forces, have rented or purchased bandwidth in DoCoMo's Wireless and Wireline Networks assuring the government of 100% connectivity (ABSOLUTELY NO CONGESTION) in times of Crises and Calamity. So the Government of Japan will see to and will exert it best effort that Physical Infrastructure of DoCoMo is the most ROBUST nationwide. Likewise, DoCoMo will always keep its network to be ROBUST at all times.

DoCoMo has the largest fleet of truck/mobile cell sites with retractable antenna nationwide. Only DoCoMo has the triple power supply on most of its cell sites. ... Electric Grid, Generator and 24-hour Lithium Batteries.

This "article" reads like a Docomo press release... No one wants their apps or services. No one wants Let's get down to brass tacks - they're grasping onto a dying business model. The numbers don't lie!

Let me guess...as per govt. recommendation and Docomo past practice, Docomo will unlock all the smartphones as normal for their usual 3000 yen fee...EXCEPT, they refuse to unlock iPhones. Of course.
