Humanity could use a nuclear bomb to deflect a massive, life-threatening asteroid hurtling towards Earth in the future, according to scientists who tested the theory in the laboratory by blasting X-rays at a marble-sized "mock asteroid".

Seems like a story that would come out in advance to promote a sequel to the movie Armageddon.

sounds good, but boeing might get the contract. it would be years overdue, so too late.

or, it wouldn’t work if it ever got there.

the asteroid would hit in the middle of congressional hearings where republicans and democrats would be blaming each other.
