Oki joins photovoltaic power conditioner market

Oki Electric Industry and Oki Power Tech (OPT), an Oki Group company developing and manufacturing power supply units, announced Monday that OPT, together with JFE Electrical & Control Systems, has developed a photovoltaic (PV) power conditioner.

This industry’s first power conditioner applies a DSP (Digital Signal Processing) controller to an insulated DCDC converter, which offers high efficient power generation even in insulated applications where power conversion efficiency has been an issue.

OPT will exhibit the product at the 2nd International Photovoltaic Power Generation Expo, which will be held in Tokyo from Wednesday. The power conditioner will be available through Oki, OPT and JFE Electrical & Control Systems’ sales channel from October 2009.

What is this? A machine for glossing your hair? I'm assuming it's some kind of air-conditioner, but can't be too sure, given the sparsity of detail.

Wiki it. Apparently they're talking about some kind of electricity regulator. I want to know if they sell photovoltaic power shampoo with their power conditioner.

Actually it is something, which I have seen a decade before in Germany. Basically it converts DC from the solar panel to AC voltage, which can be either used in the household, or send back to the power network.

A comparable system can be also found in the control of the wind generators. Basically nothing much new here.

Evolution from Edison's lightbulb to computers - basically nothing much new.

Maybe I should explain my point. I can look at the web-shop of an electronic components maker, and then I already find the product, which now Oki struggles to make. From my point of view Oki is making a "me to" product.

it's an inverter for renewable energy.
