*[outage at] Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp was a headache for many casual users but far more serious for the millions of people worldwide who rely on the social media sites to run their businesses or communicate with relatives, fellow parents, teachers or neighbors.*

This? A headache? Not even!

Want to know what a REAL headache looks like?

A real headache is when you are a reporter in Afghanistan, and FB is allowing the Taliban to hunt you down. That, my friends, is a headache!!!

From RestOfTheWorld and reporters using pseudonyms inside Afghanistan:

Now, journalists in Afghanistan say they’re also being targeted on private messaging apps like Telegram, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger, as members of the Taliban use the platforms to send death threats to journalists, either directly or through friends and family.

FB and Twitter should stay offline permanently!! I called them a social disease a long time a go!!! I was right!!!

There are three stages.

First you quit it, then you constantly tell everyone how bad it is and that they should quit it too, then you actually forget about it and move on.

Until you reach stage 3 it still lives inside you.

Reading this I realize how integrated in real life this services became.

I use them only for personal/social groups connection but can see how if Line in Japan for example halts in a major disaster people will be desperate to connect.

On the other hand for ordinary disruptions Japan is ahead - one can always do business with faxes ;-)

This is exactly why email was invented, but somehow we went back to systems susceptible to single-point-of-failure problems. And ones ran by for-profit corporations at that.

I didn't notice anything, the world kept revolving just fine for me.

What outage?

Only knew about it from the news.

Zero impact on my life.

FB, Twitter and all the others should have went off line and stayed. I didn't know anything about the outage until I read about it. If you ask me I would say these platforms are nothing but the root of problems in all societies. They have destroyed every faucet and way of life for ordinary people. They are worse than Covid that destroys one mindset. They have made people become dumber and crazed.

Social media sites should never be the primary tools for your business, these are mostly advertisement mediums and should be leveraged as such.. and facebook is definitely not some vital utility, looks like the author spends most of the time on social media.. but never understanding there real purpose.

Facebook is anything but 'vital'.
