My ex has used OX wheelchairs for decades (no, he's not a para-sports competitor, just an ordinary citizen), and loves them for their durability, style and the degree to which they can be customized to fit each user. The company also provides great post-sales service (including repairs and replacement parts).

Great to see that ingenuity in the Japanese SME sector is alive and well.

The biggest challenge the incoming athletes will face here in Tokyo is Station access. Sure, there are a lot of good stations around, but some really daft ones, with wheelchair ramps leading to steps, or elevators that lead to steps., etc. And finding your way around which ones are good is troublesome, even to an experienced tokyo-ite.
A simple bit of paint, would help wheelchair users - blue paint marking door with elevator access, and then on the floor from the elevator showing the route to the platform. Simple follow the blue line. It'd also help those travelers with heavy suitcases....
Needless to say, Japan isn't that bad especially when compared to other Countries, though certainly has room for improvement, and the above suggestion would be the quickest, easiest and cheapest to do.
