It's inevitable that robots are going to become necessary in many parts of life here, but they are not the answer for everything, contrary to what some people seem to think here.

Next step, a robot that can send and receive faxes.

And then when there's a nuclear power meltdown, and robots are ACTUALLY NEEDED, they need to be rushed in from the US and France. LOL.

JeffLee,
Yeah,I remember that. For all their prowess regarding robots when Fukushima happened they were begging the U.S. and France for help.
That SoftBank one is nothing more than a glorified iPad holder. The last time I was at Narita I found it to be more annoying than helpful.

Yet another robot puff piece. Weren't Carriro-style robots banned in San Francisco or somewhere?
maybeperhapsyes
The headline is nonsense. There is no robot that can do these things. And until there is, stop saying there are. Things ain't all "Blade Runner" yet.
Aly Rustom
exactly.
I remember that too!

And, as it was pointed out at the time, those robots had been developed not for civilian nuclear power situations but for nuclear weapons production. Doubtless, if Japan decides to go nuclear, it will develop similar robots or license foreign technology.

Instead of making the country a better place for people, Japan would rather place all of it's eggs in the 'robot will save us' basket.
Good luck with that!

@bullfighter
"those robots had been developed not for civilian nuclear power situations but for nuclear weapons production."
JT "experts " hate being called up; it's more "profitable" for them to simply play the "look, Japan cannot develop nuclear robots, they've got to BEG all other countries to do it for them".
Good luck in attempting to bring some people to their sense.

Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto!

Your critism does seem a little unfair considering your Government IS building the Fukushima Robot Test Field, if you want further details you can email: robot@pref.Fukushima.lg.JP
And in fact the next Summit is there in August 2020
And, it should be pointed out, "for peaceful purposes", which may not seem like much, but is actually a Big Deal !
