You can travel to Houston driving to 80 on the freeway,State trooper will not stop you unless you are driving erratic it a roustabout where traffic is coming and going AI would crash 100 percent of the time

Researchers there put about 20 human drivers on a circular track and asked them to drive at a constant speed. Before long, traffic went from a smooth flow to a series of stops and starts.

Probably everybody can see a similar thing in automatic escalators in a busy time, if someone stops even for a moment in the lane were people are climbing (in those places where it is allowed) this causes everybody behind this person to stop as well and the lane becomes a "no climbing" one until it is clear of people again.

Asked if automakers will be willing to cooperate to ease traffic, Pedersen said, “I certainly hope so, because the system works best when lots and lots of cars participate.”

One advantage of the system is that it works even if not every car has the technology, so even a few cars participating would mean less time, fuel, pollution and frustration for everybody.

AI would crash 100 percent of the time

This is not really "full AI driving" but adaptive cruise control with inputs of (1) speed, (2) speed of car ahead, (3) distance to car ahead. It's actually driving like a lot of level-headed people already drive, who don't mind other ADHD drivers constantly butting in front.

"Researchers: AI in connected cars eased rush hour congestion"

If we continue, it's easy to see limited access highways, where one surrenders control of one's vehicle to the system AI on the entrance ramp for the full duration on the highway, and resume control on the exit ramp... add inductive charging under the roadway fed by high efficiency solar cell road surfaces and no stops necessary. But then all of the fun of picking one's way through a 'clot' on an interstate highway and enjoying that free and open bit of highway until the next 'clot' will be gone.

There is 'driving' and then there is LIKING TO DRIVE!. The two are differentiated to some extent by the two 'personality types' that may be observed here, the author's, and the one described by a common acronym
