Gab is better.

Guidelines accessible on the site, dated Feb 14, said Parler would use technology and human review to remove “threatening or inciting content." They said a “community jury” headed by a Parler employee would hear appeals.

That’s ‘the world’s premier free speech’ platform is it?

okely dokely.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

Can't keep freedom down.

No one shut them down. The very fact that they are live again proves they weren't kept down.

You seem to think that not giving someone assistance to keep them going equates to shutting them down. This is the argument made by those who try to phrase this gay wedding cake issue as a free speech issue.

How is this any different from Facebook?

I thought the right hated that. They're either going to backpedal, or rip Parler apart as part of the right-wing civil war.

Can't keep freedom down.

Parler’s new terms and conditions can.

20 million users...doesn’t sound very premier to me. But I guess you have to work with all you can get.

Just another far-right news site giving the weak-minded all hate, all lies, all the time...

I have to admit, I didn't realize Parler was a news sight. I guess I'll defer to your experience on the subject before signing up.

"right wing friendly".

Gotta laugh when free speech is suddenly a "right-wing" fetish to be feared.

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

No one shut them down..

That is incorrect, they were hosted on Amazon AWS , and were de-platformed by Amazon, not to mention the app removed from google, apple appstore, and not allowed to use services of twillo, zendesk, as such they were forced shutdown.

It said the service would be brought back online for current users this week with new users being able to sign up next week — and would not be reliant on “Big Tech.”

Soon we will have social media, sites etc not dependent on these so called Big Tech, Excellent!

That's correct. A right-wing echo chamber with no outside input, nor ethical interest in promoting the truth, will be good for America. I mean, look how well Rush Limbaugh and Fox "news" has worked out for the country.

I guess that we can start to call Twitter and the like "left wing friendly" then, can't we? But seriously, who writes this dreck? The key for Parler is that they DON'T have a political slant. Freedom is not the exclusive domain of left or right- at least I hope it's not.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

The key for Parler is that they DON'T have a political slant.

Sure, and Fox News showed the whole impeachment and Russia Today will tell you all about Navalny's protests...

It's just one more far-right, hate-speech, cesspool...enter at your own peril...

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Again, not reading the article doesn’t help.

Parler do not have freedom of speech any more than Facebook or Twitter do.

Also they were not shutdown. If leaseholder on a business building decides not to renew the contract it is not shutting down. It is capitalism.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Perhaps Parler APPEARS to have a political slant is that the other media platforms lean very heavily in one direction, especially in their application of rules regarding content.

Isn't it ironic that Parler came into being because of Big Tech's attempts to silence certain voices, and then it was itself shut down by Big Tech? Amazon, Apple and Google form an effective oligopoly in the tech world. They don't want any competition for eyeballs and thumbs, and are more than willing to throw their collective weight around to kill off any rivals.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

It’s open market. Disagreeing with an opinion is not ‘big brother’. It keeps being said but doesn’t seem to get through that these are private companies and like any other have no obligation to provide service for disruptive customers.

Facebook has over 2 billion users. 20 million is a rival for nobody.

If you don’t like ‘Big Tech’, sure make your own little club, sounds great.

Gab is better.

Gab is for Nazis.

Perhaps Parler APPEARS to have a political slant is that the other media platforms lean very heavily in one direction, especially in their application of rules regarding content.

Parler has a far-right stance. That's why it was used as an organising tool for the attempted fascist coup on January 6.

If you think Parler is a free speech haven, go on it and try to argue that Karl Marx was right, see how long your account lasts.

The far-right have a real fixation with "appearances"... It "appeared" Hugo Chavez helped steal the election... The Kraken was supposed to "appear"... Jewish-funded space lasers "appeared" to start California forest fires...

With the far-right, it's always about wallowing in "victimhood"...

Gotta laugh when free speech is suddenly a "right-wing" fetish to be feared.

Nothing to be scared of about the right-wing per se, a valid opinion, but perhaps "alt right" or "far right" would be a closer description.

The movement that Trump hijacked, established by the Tea Party and then further twisted, is more a bag of twisted delusions.

Objective reality dismissed, science held in contempt, racism given a free ride, extreme evangelicals allowed to inject religion into the state and full-on lies about election fraud going not just unchallenged, but encouraged.

This is the "right-wing" we are talking about - a Qult, built around the a denial of reality.

Just another far-right news site giving the weak-minded all hate, all lies, all the time...

Let's stop pretending that the far left is any better or worse than the far right, OK?

Extremism is extremism.

If you think Parler is a free speech haven, go on it and try to argue that Karl Marx was right, see how long your account lasts.

Have you tried? I'll bet you real money that your account will be banned. In fact Parler's CEO put out an open call for liberals to join the platform:

"Trump fans are flocking to the social media app Parler — its CEO is begging liberals to join them"

**will not be banned

I hope you aren’t a Parler mod.

Of course they want ‘liberals’ to join. Who else are they going to argue with?

I say leave them to it. Big ole circle J.

Also, your link is 8 months old.

Lot happened since then. Check the new Parler user agreements.

Just another far-right news site giving the weak-minded all hate, all lies, all the time...

Let's stop pretending that the far left is any better or worse than the far right, OK?

Let's stop pretending that Trump won in a landslide, that ballots were sent to Germany, and that a guy that has been dead for seven years helped switch votes...

If Trump and his cult had stopped pretending that after Nov 3rd, we wouldn't have had the insurrection on Jan 6th...

Extremism is extremism.

Says the militias, the Proud Boys, the Oath Keepers, and the Q Shaman....

Parler: Because even nazis, white supremacists, anti-semites, misogynists and conspiracy nut-jobs need a platform after they’ve been shunned by civil society.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Trump supporters think they are being censored - because they are being excluded from a PRIVATE COMPANY that has published rules and standards to remain on their site...and those Trump supporters violated those rules...

So I assume they also think that its acceptable for a Biden supporter to come onto their PRIVATE PROPERTY and put "Biden/Harris 2024" signs on the Trump supporters yard...

Because free speech is free speech - right?

20 million is less than 1% of Facebook.

I’d much rather have the world full of 99% photos of someone’s dinner, funny cat or new tattoo than 1% of fake news right wing nonsense.

Good luck with your Parler thingy. I hope you enjoy it.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Makes not so much sense to take part, as the opinions probably don’t differ so much and almost nobody needs to be convinced. I personally prefer the sites with more conflict potential and a big overwhelming majority of lefties. There is the hard work to do, teaching, convincing and dismantling their communist propaganda structures. And if many comments are censored or deleted, then it’s exactly the confirmation of being at the right place. Like this one here for example...rofl

Closed shop of bigots, racists, sexists, homophobes, anti semitics........

I'm guessing this character didn't know what Parler was until about 10 minutes ago, let alone be familiar with what is discussed.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

I guess that we can start to call Twitter and the like "left wing friendly" then, can't we?

Twitter is neutral. They allow posting of both political leanings, with restrictions. They actually remove left-leaning posts at a rate of 2:1 over right-leaning posts, so if you were to say it leaned one way or the other, it would be to the right.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Perhaps Parler APPEARS to have a political slant is that the other media platforms lean very heavily in one direction, especially in their application of rules regarding content.

I don't think Parler has a right-wing slant as a platform. It's just the platform where right-wingers go. I don't believe they have any anti-left-wing moderation policy.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Only if bigots refusing to make gay wedding cakes is ironic... and I don't think it is.

20 million is less than 1% of Facebook..

The number of authentic active a/c's on facebook will probably be around 20-30%, rest would be troll a/c's (very active), fake a/c's (more than 50%), seldomly used a/c's..not to mention the central/right aligned all but moving out from facebook.

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/11/13/facebook-removed-3point2-billion-fake-accounts-between-apr-and-sept.html
