Robot suit firm lists on stock market

Cyberdyne is unrelated to the fictional firm responsible for the Terminator in the 1984 film of the same name, and HAL’s naming is said to be unconnected to the sentient computer in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Of course they're related. Are they just saying this to prevent lawsuits? Cool names.

Cyberdyne, based in Tsukuba, northeast of Tokyo, has developed a robot suit that can help the elderly or disabled get around. Its Hybrid Assistive Limb, or HAL, is a power-assisted pair of legs.

The company has also produced a brainwave-controlled robot suit that allows wearers to don heavy radiation protection without feeling the weight, possibly offering utility to workers at the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant.

Definitely worthwhile research.

At first I though this was an early April fools day joke - Cyberdyne meets HAL. Awesome pairing. Someone from Omni Consumer Products could wear the suit. (wait, they wouldn't have to.) Whats next? The Umbrella Corporation merges with The Soylent Corp?

I love their names.

Let me guess... the tomorrow the biggest stock holder will be Wayne Enterprises and a strategic alliance with Stark Enterprises is formed.

...and their next models yet to be unveiled are the Johnny-5, AT-AT and heavy-industrial "Metal Gear". Names also unrelated to any films.
