[relatively low price helps push the product into an early lead.]

[The headset, designed to work with the PlayStation 4 rather than requiring new equipment, retails at $399, cheaper than Facebook Inc's $599 Oculus Rift and HTC Corp's $799 Vive.]

"Cheaper" perhaps, but "relatively cheap"? Maybe I am just frugal, but does that price include the PS4? I doubt it. How good is this thing anyway? Better than what they use with cell phones?

It doesn't include a PS4. But others don't include a pc either. And you need a good one to enjoy VR. For the price of the HTC you can buy both playstation and the headset. So i agree it's relatively cheap. I've never tried Oculus or HTC but i bought PS VR 2 month ago. Quite impressed. It's not perfect obviously but i can see a lot of potential in it. Think it was a smart move from Sony.

Expect VR headsets to get even cheaper this year, as $300 VR headsets roll out without requiring extra camera/tracker (the camera/tracker is built-in to the headset) with some surprisingly low minimum PC requirements - 4GB of RAM, USB 3.0 port, a graphics card with DirectX 12 support, and 4 CPU cores (including dual-core processors with hyperthreading), even many lower-end laptops should work (compared to what would be required for an Oculus Rift or HTC Vive, although this is not for high-end gaming).
