Got a 7-inch Android tablet. Much more portable and lightweight than an ipad. Can hold it with one hand while reading from it standing up. Don't know why so many have the bigger, heavier models.

I don't have an iPad, I use my MacBook if I have to do some computing outside the house. But I would buy a mini iPad right now it Apple lauches it, it would be perfect for me: lighter, thin, it can be carried in a bag. And the suggested price does not hurt.

Jobs was right.

Does size matter?

Have looked into making an app for the iPad, but I am stymied by the fact that the iPad isn't as popular here in Japan (especially among certain professions) as the iPhone. Why not? People in Japan don't seem to want a "big" and "heavy" iPad. I don't feel it is either, but then being 187 cm and 100 kg makes a difference. So if Apple isn't gonna do it, then I definitely see a market waiting for someone to take advantage of as many people want a 7-inch tablet like the iPad.

incognito12! that's what she said!

Reminds me of the local scene back about 14 or 15 years ago when a small ‘’Handy Phone,’’ was considered cool. I think I was parading around a Tuka that I used to slap up on the bar and scope out the local girly talent thinking it was way too cool that it was about the size of a shot glass.'' Regardless, I think current applications want a bigger bang with pencil graphic capabilities and that is difficult to do on a Dick Tracy wrist watch in rapid motion. Unless of course it can project a 3-d projection out in front of the user and broadcast your presentation to those in front at desired wrist held angles with a micro battery that really swings a set of knockers on the rhino rack ….Never mind…stay tuned…Yeah…Get back to work!!!! He-he…

DOA according to Steve Jobs.

He tried turning over in his grave but, like an iPad, the top always settled upward.

there's no reason not to have a mini-ipad. the only reason jobs said that was because he's the ultimate competitor and wanted to head off any competition. jobs was one of the best salesmen the world has ever known. a 7-inch screen is perfectly reasonable to display games and movies and anything else.

I don´t get it. Isn´t a smaller "iPad" simply an "iPod"`?

Are people arguing about a letter here?

Yes, an iPad the size of a Samsung Galaxy Tab and maybe then I'll consider buying one.

Jobs also said:

"nobody wants to watch video on a portable device" a year before they launched the iPod Video. "nobody reads anymore" 2 years before launching iBooks

Of course he's not going to diss products that Apple don't sell.. until they sell them!

My guess a smaller version of the IPad will actually be a big hit, since it kind of a pain to be lugging around in bags etc..and if you are on a super crowded train here in Tokyo rush hour, being all squeezed up against millions of other poor souls?? CRACK!! There goes your shiny Ipad being broken in half!! Safer in my book is a bit smaller, so I can not wait to see if Apple on the rest of the competition get on board to make better, faster smaller tablets, oh and CHEAPER!!

Already have an iPad mini. It's called an iPhone.

What speculative crap. Analysts, making money out of guessing, are the modern day equivalent of palm readers: sometimes they're right, most of the times not. Then journos, pressured by having to fill the daily news quota suck it all up, try to give it a clever, personal touch and push it out to the masses, for them to share their own uninformed ideas on the matter (yes, I get the irony).

A "mini" version of everything has been rumored since the first time the iPhone came out, people seemingly comparing iOS to the iPod ecosystem. Nowadays, nobody is talking about the iPhone mini anymore and I believe we will forget about the "iPad mini" soon enough too.

@zichi

Are you not using media queries? Shouldn't be any need to update if you used that right.

Love my iPad. I need a bigger font always due to my poor eyesight. I know my iPhone is great but for reading its iPad FTW.
