@ReasonandWisdomNippon

We have our own brand, better then Samsung.

No Japan does not.

If Japanese smartphone brands have such a small market share in their own home turf, then they are not better. Samsung beats all other Japanese brands except Sony in market share, all the while having to hide their Korean identity with the Galaxy brand. Shouldn't this be a wakeup call for Japanese companies?

@morbius.. lol what do you expect out of all these BTS Fan edition phones. well...Sharp has a larger market share than sony. Sony's no longer focusing on mass market phones. they are focusing more on niche markets but Sony's phones are incredible. show me a phone better than xperia 5 mk 2. or xperia 1 mk 2.

@morbius217 well.. Sony mobile division made a profit of 170 million dollars in the last quarter.

@samit basu well..sony demonstrated rollable oleds in 2008, sold phones with transparent screens in 2009.

The apparent 16% reduction is power requirement does not offset the large increase in screen use time for 5G phones.

The improvement is not valid because it doesn't solve an unrelated issue ?!

Yes, Sony is making very expensive niche market phones that until now were making losses. Is this sustainable? Wouldn't it be better for Sony to quit smartphones and allocate resources to invest in gaming, entertainment, drones and other emerging technologies? Same as Sharp (now owned by Taiwan's Foxconn) and Kyocera. Nobody outside of Japan has heard about these brands.

Sharp has a larger market share than sony.

Do you have a source for this?

Sony mobile division made a profit of 170 million dollars in the last quarter

Do you have a source for that? All the articles that I looked at only mentioned that Sony anticipates their first profit for the mobile division next year, after a decade of losses. And even if that is true, for how long will this niche market last?

I think your talking about North Korea. We have our own brand, better then Samsung.

No Japan does not.

Depends how you qualify "better".

If by "better" you are referring to quality, then yes, Japan does have a brand better than Samsung. If it's in global scale and sales, then no, Japan doesn't.

Wow, am I seeing clearly? Samsung being mentioned in Japanese media?!? This company was pretty much ignored and many Japanese people believe their Samsung Galaxy is just a Galaxy brand or a Docomo sub-brand. Telling them it's a Samsung device, they hessitate to believe.

The only new interesting OLED screen developments are

1) Foldable screen with thicker foldable protective glass so foldables can support S-Pen.

2) Transparent screen to enable under-display selfie camera. Instead of keyhole on screen, the camera covering area becomes transparent to enable to camera to shoot through the screen.
