that korean guy
samsung cannot be "offended" - apple patented it
BertieWooster
Apple innovates. Others copy.
It used to be Microsoft.
Now it's Samsung.
gogogo
@BertieWooster:
Apple copied LG, read the following and don't be clouded by apple's PR machine.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LG_Prada_(KE850)
wtfjapan
haha anyone who thinks Apple is the white knight here is ignorant, Samsung Apple LG Nokia all infringe on each others patents.
genjuro
gogogo: I followed the link and it also stated there:
"LG later claimed that Apple stole both the ideas and concept of the Prada phone. A lawsuit by LG had been rumored prior to this announcement; [8] however, LG never followed through with it. That may be because Apple's first form factor for the iPhone began in 2005 (as revealed in patent findings and in Apple's 2012 lawsuit trial with Samsung)"

Apple litigates. Others copy (the tactic by counter-suing)
OMG Can you believe all these manufacturers copying each other with 4 wheeled cars powered by an engine?!?!? Someone better start suing everyone else, because unless it is horse-drawn it must be a copy!!
Thanks Apple, you showed us a new direction. Now stop being babies and be happy with the monstrous profits you make off all your fanboys

History speaks for itself. How often Korean companies initiated the first smashing design products? They copy and modify after other's first breakthrough. Counter-suing in this matter is an expression of aggressiveness as part of Korean tactics all along. Technology can be share, but intellectual property rights must be respected.

I'm not anti-Apple but some of their design claims like rounded edges on phones are just plain ridiculous.
Probie
Yeah, right.
Like how Apple did with the computer mouse, and the GUI (both from the Xerox Star in 1981), the tablet computer (GRiD Pad, launched in 1989), and the MP3 player (first ever portable digital music player was built in 1979)?
This is also a very interesting article on the subject of Apple vs Samsung:

"Very Offensive" is not a denial! He just evaded the question.

The only losers here are the consumer because these court battles over stupid semantics are paid for by the consumers in the end. Buy a $10 phone and $400 legal fees. Honestly how different are the designs going to be. just like cars need 4 wheels, phones need an OS, a screen, a button or two etc. The iPad is nothing new, MS came out with slates before I saw iPads and they didn't catch on. They all handle the truth carelessly.
Ninoh
Typical defense of a copy cat.

the first galasy S must have been copied from iphone 3gs. i was unable to identify which was the real iphone but samsung has already stopped copying the shape from apple gadgets that made galaxy s3 which looks ugly as if beach sandals, though sales are very well because samsung has succeeded to create its image that is the only one competitor against apple. i think apple cant bear to be treated as a rival of galaxies.
lostrune2
Everybody copies - damn Pirates of Silicon Valley.
littlebear
ON with Apple! Down with Samsung!!! Yeaaahhhh!
ka_chan
Comparing OS, android sucks in networking. Google, fix it!
JeffLee
Smartphones, tablets, mp3 players, you name it: Apple is usually the late-comer (after copying others' ideas)
gogogo
@ka_chan: Upgrade to ice cream sandwich or jellybean, anything else just sucks

Practically everything that Apple claimed is missing from the documents, and EVERYTHING is actually a generalized analysis of their product vs the competition. They are getting sued for good engineering (looking at your own mistakes and how others solved it) that just took the fundamentals of how to solve the issue. If Apple wasn't doing the same, they would have come out with a 5 inch sony UX with camera and cellphone and ran it on OSX light.

I cant help but think that these litigations is actually HELPING Samsung in the end?
The fact that Apple singles out Samsung's Galaxy, shows that it thinks this is a serious threat. And sending all these litigations out there like this must put the seed in some people's minds that it might actually be the better option. I wonder if there are any iPhone users out there thinking "sick of this cotton wool crap, let me copy my files to my phone and back in peace!" who suddenly start thinking - well, if its good enough for Apple to sue, it must be pretty good!
Temporary bans = scramble to buy when Samsung wins back the right to sell

I am considering a Samsung Galaxy IIS and I am typing on an iMac.
Also agree that lawsuits like that make people scrutinise both products closer and make comparisons.

That and Apple refusing to state that Samsung did not infringe because their stuff was "not cool enough" (according to the judge in London) makes people think that perhaps the samsung phones are either as cool or cooler than iproducts. I can't see Apple doing anything but shooting themselves in the foot, since they are ruining the brand reputation that made stuff sell in the first place. It is good that people will now actually see the product instead of the hype though, it helps even the playing field for all companies, not just samsung.
LostinNagoya
Offended? They xeroxed Apple. One wonders how they didn't use a bitten pear as a logo...LOL.

I find the irony in your statement quite amusing.
gmarcotte
the whole concept of suing over design is like Ford motor company suing all the other car manufactures who make cars using the colour black or the position of the brake pad... stupid. let the market place decide whos got the better product.
software and design patents are just hurting innovation. no one company has exclusive right to a market just because they had a cool design. Most software patents should be found invalid. Or better yet just send all the lawyers to the fukashima power plant swimming pool.
apple has number of problems with there product, competitors provide some alternatives (like a bloody standard usb connection to upload and down load files to the device!!!)
people should have choices, what the point of having capitalist market without competition.

That is the main one that Apple claims is theirs. As you can see, they claim to own the patent on a box... I really don't know why it's taking so long to just invalidate that one.
You also have:
http://www.google.com/patents?id=-AbHAAAAEBAJ&printsec=abstract&zoom=4#v=onepage&q&f=false (iphone patent that references everyone from canon to samsung)
US 7,469,381 B2 (bounceback and pinch to zoom patent, the second half of the patent is a ripoff of US 2006 0031786 Al)

More so when you consider their patents were submarine patents (which should be made illegal, there's absolutely no point to patents if you consider them trade secrets), and even then Fusion Garage came up with the same shape as the NEW iPad and released the JooJoo before Apple even had their original.

Android does not equal Samsung. As a matter of fact, Samsung is already falling behind on the updated version of Android. Expect Motorola, owned by Google to carry the new technology.
Samsung clones and bundles stuff, they do not develop it.
As for Samsung v Apple, here is a guide from the court proceedings on how Samsung clones iphones--quite illustrative.

Good job posting what already was posted in it's entirety. Unless you've ever done engineering workflows, you would think it is copying, but all they did was look at how competitors solved several issues. I'm certain that Apple keeps equivalent documents on all their opponents, especially Sony but also Samsung LG Motorola and others.

Heck, my country did thinks during WWII I am ashamed of during WWII that I am ashamed of but that was 70yrs ago.
Few survivors left and if you hear their stories ...... I recall the stories my grandfather told from the russian front and 2yrs in a gulag. No difference from a german camp.

chessgm, you're so ignorant it's unbelievable. Just fvck off and die.
