Well they have their own OS, Bada, however I don't think that it is used on Galaxies.

I wonder if its really necessary to keep reminding us that Samsung uses Android software...

The other thing is revenue. I know that carriers carry some of the cost of the hardware, but I would say, on average, iPhones cost 3 to 4 times more, cash out of pocket than any Samsung phone (at least, here in the US where iPhones are only available from 2 carriers). Gross margins for iPhones are probably the envy of every mobile phone manufacturer.

I like Samsung phones but numbers are not really accurate as apple peeps are waiting for iphone 5... do the math again a few months after iphone 5 is out to give a better picture.
