oversized smartphone

Fail! To have a more powerful device but maintaining the slimness factor of the device, you need to oversize your phone's total volume and surface area so that you will more rooms for your components.Nice trick, but it is not the main reason why I'm not getting one anytime soon. The dim display of the galaxy series has turned me down. I'm sticking with my old iphone4 until the better IphoneX comes, or a galaxy SX with a brighter screen comes out.

Who was the apple head that wrote that title?

The note is a hybrid device, it is suppose to be used to make quick notes and write things down plus have the functions of a smart phone.

titaniumdioxide: Turn off screen auto dimmer and set the screen to full brightness if you want to be blinded.

Looks good. Big enough to use as a (small) tablet, nice size for watching videos, maps, etc... but small enough to fit in my pocket. Well, I hope! I like the idea of using 2 apps simultaneously too.

I'm going to get one asap, changeable battery, memory. mini usb, swype, huge beautiful screen, navigation, copy and paste videos, etc etc, this is what I've been waiting for! Sure some folks will say the obvious, that you look silly holding it to your face...who cares.... in contrast to what some people think, nobody looks cool with a phone. Bye bye boring but reliable iphone and most of all bye bye itunes!

Tried that on Docomo shops many times...and wasn't impressed. Max brightness on phones makes people blind? Thats a new thing?

How is it different from the previous version. A faster processor? We want innovation not just a rehash of the same thing. A disappointment to be sure.

How is that any different from your last Smartphone.

This looks like a small tablet. I thought the Galaxy was too big, but this is ridiculous. Way too big for my pocket.

It's only the second one, , so if you have the original one I don't see the need to upgrade, but if you own a different phone and don't own a tablet, this phablet is all you need.

My last/present phone is 4gs which has none of these options, and only if you wear skin tight jeans, hipster style it won't fit in....but then being a hipster you won't have anything but the iphone 5 anyway.

I can't see why they released it if all you gain is increased speed and a slightly bigger screen. They should have waited until they actually had something new.

Never heard of it.

oops I meant the 4s. I hope you heard of that one?

Really? Well let's see.

But my post was more to parody the whingers that complained when the iPhone 5 came out that it wasn't much different from the previous version but were conspicuously silent on this release.

Improvements in iPhone 5 (over the 4S):

Thinner

Lighter

Faster

Larger Screen

New power efficient LTE 4G

Improved connector

Better battery life

Samsung Note:

Faster

Bigger screen

Stylus has a rubber end

Still overpriced

2002 hindsight, sorry your sarcasm fell on deaf ears...being European I'm quite familiar with the concept of sarcasm....but I just didn't get it. evolution of a product is natural phenomena, but Apple acts like each upgrade is revolutionary....that attitude is what Many people despise, that and the absurd amount of attention you get thrown in your face. Don't mistake stupidity for sarcasm...

"oversized"

Too big?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Yaa too big to carry

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Hey lack of foresight: Stick to apple threads. we all know your allegiances.

The Note II is a niche product, yet it's fits the needs of a good number of people. Women carry handbags everywhere don't use pockets for their devices. Guys who dont wear tight jeans can easily get this into their slacks. Heck I used ot rock a 7inch tab in my pants pockets. Fitted just fine. If you want something small get an xperia ray with a 3.3screen. Android: their is something for EVERYONE. The Henry Ford one size fits all ideology died out about 70-80 years ago.

Kind of hard to "improve" like iphone's catching up considering the first already had all those things the ip5 added (LTE, faster, etc). What Samsung did was improve upon an already industry leading device, to keep it on the bleeding edge. Not like anything was added to internationally accepted standards that were already in the first phone (microUSB, microHDMI, WiFi, LTE, etc). Still, 2gb ram place it at twice the iphone's 1gb (unchanged from 4), and the 3100mAh battery is 24% larger than the last device, much more than the 5% increase in iphone (which still has less than 1440mAh 3.8v, 30% smaller than SIII and less than half the note 2)

I'm personally not a fan of 4.5"+ sets, but should be very popular with women and business people who always carry a bag/purse.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

I completely agree this thing is better than the iPhone 4, 4s, 5. Of course, this tablet crashes every other day, but hey, the immense display makes up for it. It may be full of malwares, but you just have to reboot it every week, no problem at all, just have to have some patience. Also when if finally turns dead, it may be used as a tray for drinks, or a fan during hot days or a oar to row a boat. All these things are features since 2010, iPhone has yet to catch up.

Words I read by someone elsewhere on this site (change a little :-)

.......And the giant screens are gonna make some anxious souls here to have a heart attack. Calm down guys. My advice (try following your own) : stop reading news about Androids. Join macdailynews or ifans or someother blind forums, it will make you feel better :)

Lost? must be using Apple maps......

.....and then it'll be an old model in a year....

@flammenwerfer: point is, no matter if the article is about Apple or Android, you Androiders always bring iPhone to the talk. Isn't that true? Also, you were whining about media hype, while taking part of it. My sarcasm here is directed at the Android anxious type, like you. And, err, I don't remember I complained about media hype about Android (because there's not enough hype around Android), so naturally I can counter argument an article about a Samsung device that has as many posts about Apple as about Samsung itself...get a pen and draw. :)

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

but Apple acts like each upgrade is revolutionary....that attitude is what Many people despise, that and the absurd amount of attention you get thrown in your face.

Um, no. They don't. They just release a new product. Fandroids make a big thing about it.

Don't mistake stupidity for sarcasm...

Stupidity? Ah, you're being sarcastic. ;-)

Still, 2gb ram place it at twice the iphone's 1gb

And that is important because...? Ah it's geeks numbers; of course it's important.

(unchanged from 4),

Wrong. 4 had 500MB

and the 3100mAh battery is 24% larger than the last device,

Yes, when you have a phone as big as a tablet you can put a big battery in it. And in Android's case you need to.

much more than the 5% increase in iphone (which still has less than 1440mAh 3.8v, 30% smaller than SIII and less than half the note 2)

Yes, and due to elegant design, without the massive footprint of these clunky phones, the iPhone still has better battery performance.

Actually, I'd like to see if Samsung can build a stylish looking phone. I do not think they can. They build big clunky phones so that they can throw in a massive battery. You would have to admit that the Note is not going to get any design awards.

Why don't Note 1 users just upgrade their Android to 4.1?

Ok now you finally use sarcasm in a proper way.

They probably could, but Samsung would rather they buy the new one, probably.

I never knew what rudeness really was until I bought a Samsung Galaxy S3 and tried to get some help from their service department. Perhaps Samsung's service center is in Pyongyang.

Problems I have had with the Galaxy S3: Poor battery life Bluetooth incompatibilities with car and headsets Cracks in back panel

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Poor battery life - ever had a smartphone before?

what apps are you running in the background that could be closed? what power saving settings have you employed?. You can easily double battery life on most android devices with a few smart moves.
