Samsung, Panasonic start selling 3-D TVs in U.S. this week

I imagine in a few years after this crazy 3D fad fades, the geniuses who literally "bought" into this hype, will have long term vision problems like in the movie "The Jerk"...

iTV anyone? how about 5-D TV? or 6+1D? 8th if you throw in some cool gizmo let-me-rip-your-buns n' wallet shades. this sounds like the 50's 3d BS all over again. f-cameron and his blueman i met pocahontas and shaggedher crap.

gotta go with pamalot on this one...TV watching has become a family activity, and 3 D TV will not promote that...no 3D in my house!

Insular. 3D makes everyone separate. Put on glasses, and go into "your own world"... I'm not against progress, but this current trend seems to inspire more and more isolation.

3-D done well can be incredible, as anyone who has seen Avatar can attest. I'll be interested (a few years down the road) to see sports in 3-D. Imagine a baseball game... a behind-the-plate camera... a foul ball right back at the camera... you'll be diving for cover!

So in the future I am gonna have to search for my TV remote AND my 3D glasses? No way.

Although a technical breakthrough and both companies deserve credit for it, I wonder if it has any added value? I remember 7-1l was promoting the first broadcast of a 3-D movie with John Wayne and they were giving out free glasses to watch it on regular TV during the late 80's or early 90's. It worked pretty well and assume you could do the same with the flat-panel HD TV, too. Am I wrong?

It is still much to early for 3D televisions. The real breakthrough will come once customers can buy a 3D video camera and watch their own shootings on 3D.
