How about spending less time on the bleeding things? It’s mental these days, get in a train and almost everyone is on their phone watching social media, watching films or playing them daft women targeted at women. My phone is mostly used to listen to music while I’m out, lol

Meant daft puzzle games targeted at women, lol. What am I like eh.

I be more impressed if they made all phones repairable. Starting with batteries easier to replace. Like my old GI Joe walkie talkie

Not following recent EU legislation? What it will mean is that (in the EU at least) batteries will be replaceable but you'll have to replace yours each year. Still better than having a brick.

"Even better: a tiny nuclear battery that could keep it running for 50 years."
Just imagine: everyone walking around with a nuclear-powered dumb-phone! ...what could possibly go wrong?

It's not expensive to have the battery replaced and will extend the phone for another two years. I wouldn't want to replace the battery by myself. Too risky to cause damage. My 2019 phone is good for 85% capacity. When it hits 80% it will be replaced by a care program.

Indeed. That's why I would like to see it easier to be done. I heard from a friend that he tried to do it and he started a small fire with his phone.!. Take about about a 'risk to cause damage'
Remember the old Ever-Ready batteries we used to put into the radio? Something like that. Why do we need to have someone else replace a battery for us now? That is regressive.
Mrs Elvis's iPhone recently had to be replaced because the home button stopped working. The shop said it is better to replace it. These gadgets should all be easy to fix even by a five tear old. Check out the Fairphone

iPhone batteries last more than five years before reaching 80% capacity, which is still good. The cost of replacing my iPhone battery locally would be ¥7000 to ¥11,000 depending on the company. I still have Applecare which I think is a must for iPhones. Damage and theft from AU.
I have several devices that run on batteries and need frequent changes. I use rechargeables.
I can't imagine my iPhone running on AA batteries. Too big.
I think the last phone with a home button was the iPhone 8. 2017. Probably was better to have a new one.

That depends on how the phone is being used. Screen time is quite low apparently so that 80% capacity after 5 years is not really that good.
What? I 've never needed to replace my battery so that is a new one. More reason why all phones should have batteries that the owner or a five year old can replace themselves, just like the old radios. That is a rip off.
Lol. I never get such things. Never needed Applecare either. iPhones are very reliable and tuff you see. Why pay money for a new thing in case it breaks? Buy something else that is more reliable if you are worried. Or handle it properly. The shop must have had big windows seeing you coming.!.
You are mistaken. The SE (3rd gen) release 2022 has a home button. Google it and see. Anyways, if her phone was repairable, then she would have fixed it as there would be no need to replace it. This 'junk it' attitude is not acceptable.
Ha ha ha. I can because I have the ability to, but it would be silly thing to do and old fashioned. I use mine on a 12 V car jack if the battery goes low.

If your wive's iPhone was the SE 2022 and broke in 2023 it would have been still under warranty. Guess she had the iPhone 8 then.
My Applecare covers theft and damage. Most consumer reports consider iPhone Applecare worthwhile insurance.
Having replaceable batteries would reduce the water tightness.
I buy my products online.

Something for the boffins to work on.
Indeed. Guess you guessed that.!.

That's not necessarily correct. iPhones have a 3-month warranty, unless you get Apple Care, which is not mandatory.
wallace
The Apple Limited Warranty covers your iPhone and the Apple-branded accessories that come in the box with your product against manufacturing issues for one year from the date you bought them. Our warranty is in addition to rights provided by consumer law.

Note the "Limited Warranty" part of that.

Comes in rather handy if, through no fault of your own, the screen gets cracked, or completely broken. A cracked screen on a newer phone will set you back 30,000 JPY+ without applecare.

Back to this point, the SE2 and SE3 both had a home button:

I've never got it. I've had iPhones since 2010, and paid to get more than one screen fixed, but it's still worked out cheaper than applecare for me.
wallace
Under Japanese Law, all devices have a one-year warranty.
My Applecare for damage and theft is about ¥10,000 per year. The cost to replace the screen is $300. Those with an Apple Care Plus plan will only pay $29 to replace an iPhone screen. Covered twice in one year.
Strangerland
"Limited" warranty.
bass4funk
I just do all those repairs myself, I have the tools, not going to worry about the AppleCare warranty so much
ClippetyClop
Does that apply to all models?
Like @Bass, I also do my own screen replacements when I have to. Obviously, he does it much better than a lib like me on his iphone 18, and in Swedish or many other languages too.
Battery replacements are easy despite my lack of a private iphone lab.
purple_depressed_bacon
I just want them to bring back phone models that allow us to easily replace the batteries once they've been wrung out. Remember when the back of your phone was actually removable? And laptop batteries could also be removed? Why did they dispense with this? Oh right, because it's a ploy to get us to buy another phone or laptop, never mind that it's forcing us to contribute to the alarming heap of e-waste at landfills.
bass4funk
Not sure what that rant was for, but anyway, no it doesn't matter which phone, I can fix most of them, never had a problem whether it was the screen or the electronics.
It's a start.
wallace
Where do you buy screens from?
bass4funk
Depends, various places.
wallace
Do you buy them in Japan?
bass4funk
No.

Wait. Do you mean your iPhone screen had problems twice in a year?
Really? How fragile is it? Or was it caused by mishandling?
Sorry, just saying - even if it's cheaper, it could cost you zero if it didn't have any problems.

Solar panels are being developed that are transparent. Make a phone protective screen that doubles as a solar phone charger.. Would still need a battery in the phone, but it might not need as much plug in time for charging.
I had a Japanese watch with a battery and a small solar panel charger. The battery lasted ten years without a charge.
