Wait, they are counting all the Playstations as a single console just because they share the same name? That is stupid.

Its stupid if they do it for XBoxes too - the consoles are completely different.
The "PlayStation" sold about 100 million units The PlayStation 2 sold about 150 million and is the best selling console of all time. No console has ever sold 450 million units.
By the logic used, if Nintendo had called every console it ever made "Famicom" and just added a number to it with each generation, everything they ever put out would count as one console too. It makes no sense, they are basically just recognizing how long the name has been used.

Well if you take into account only non-portable console, Sony has sold more Playsation than Famicom, Super Famicom, N64, Wii, Wii-U and Switch combined.

Forgot about GameCube, but even still under Sony.

Yes, which means Sony is the biggest console seller of all time. I'm fine with that. I just object to pretending that all the Playstations are a single console called "PlayStation" which sold 450 million units. That is very misleading. PlayStation 2 is the top selling console of all time, not "PlayStation 1-4".

True

The article isn't properly written. They are saying Playstation has outsold Nintendo for the best selling console brand. They counted the Nintendo game consoles of past and present. But Sony has now outsold Nintendo in the console department. Nintendo still holds the record for the handheld department.

Relax people...
This is good news overall. I think having the Xbox around is a good competition for PlayStation and hopefully the next generation of consoles and games will reflect that.
