go Sony. #ps5.

Sony will have solid sales in their native country. Xbox has never had commercial success in Japan. I doubt it'll be any different with this gen of consoles.

3 ( +14 / -11 )

Frankly, I blame video games for the overwhelming pre-ordering of video games.

4 ( +15 / -11 )

It's all about the games. Sony took the time to build up business relationships with top game companies to develop well-made games. Microsoft on the other hand, didn't and are falling way behind the game console wars.

jack o helen, are you serious? Xbox has a ton of great games. PS5 always does well in Japan because it's made by a Japanese company and that's all. Oh and they offer more anime type otaku games so....

9 ( +18 / -9 )

It is amassing how much free time people have for such mind numbing activity.

zatoizugoodo: At present, I would say that the PS5 will do and is doing better than the new Xbox series X. The series X just doesn't have the sheer number of premiere launch games that the PS5 has yet. It has Assassin's Creed Valhalla and maybe Yakuza like a Dragon, but not much else just yet.

On the other hand, PS5 already has good games like Spiderman: Miles Morales, Fortnite, Demon's Souls, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and several others at launch time, with a ton of anticipated others like Gran Turismo 7, COD: Black Ops, etc. to come out early next year.

Which means PS5 offers more variety. Nice.

-4 ( +9 / -13 )

People that say games are mind numbing generally spend their spare time watching TV or movies. By that logic, wouldn't those things also be mind numbing?

Science has shown that games can be very intellectually engaging. If you loosened up a little I'm sure you'd find one worth your time

Also, guys, can we not have a console wars over here? Who cares what console you favor. Buy your pick and have fun, won't you? Cheers

Because the Xbox One outsold the PS4 in every other country besides Japan. Oh, wait...

Spot on with that comment! PS only sells in Japan because of the anime games, the rest of the world only buys Xbox because it's better and doesn't have anime games

I remembering go into a an electrical store in 1995 and seeing a PS1 for the first time and being blown away by the next levelness of 32bit compared to SNS or Sega Mega Drive.

Amazing to think that it would take over 3000 PS1 to equal the computing power of a PS5.

Ok boomer

1 ( +12 / -11 )

Lmao the downvotes are telling me there's more than one boomer here, @Fanch.

Imagine being so bitter you have to post negative comments about other people's hobbies on a Japanese news site, and then tell those same people they should spend their time more productively.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

Interesting fact. Console games don't usually sell well in Asia. PS3 and PS4 did badly in Japan. People tend to lean towards computer and mobile gaming in Japan.

Complete lie that Xbox sells more

The PS4 has sold 112.50 million units lifetime, the Switch 62.08 million units, and the Xbox One 48.31 million units. Looking at the marketshare, the PlayStation 4 currently leads. The PlayStation 4 has a 50.5 percent market share, the Switch sits at 27.8 percent, and the Xbox One at 21.7 percent.

Did you read that? How many units PS4 Sold Worldwide vs Xbox? Want to eat those words now?

Reports all over the Internet Xbox X breaking down, freezing, Reedit has a long list of problems users reported.

Xbox same old controller from 12 years ago, still uses AA batteries which run out every few days.

No new interface, inadequate cooling, only one fan, only old games.

Compared to Sony Liquid Metal(first), Massive huge heat sink, massive 120mm Fan. Built like a computer!

Go ahead Xbox boys, go buy your inferior Console... Get a pack of 24 Double AA too you'll need it.

Why pay 39,980 to 49,980 yen for hardware that has limited software for it? There will be very little software for this platform because the developers are so behind due to Covid.

@Paul books for stimulation? sure, that's fine. But WW2 is over. We can use games to stimulate the mind even further now, if it's the right type of game.

So your idea of mind stimulation is to kill people virtually because you can't do it in reality, how depressing! Your life must be really miserable if you need that kind of stimulation.

@Paul when was the last time you played a video game, if ever. They come in all shapes and forms and address a very large audience with different tastes and expectations. They can very much stimulate imagination, creativity and develop dexterity. You love books, great so do I, but one is not better than another just a different media.

This can't possibly be true for computer gaming. Mobile gaming I can understand, but I just don't see gaming computers as prevalent here as in the west.

Japan is the second biggest computer gaming market behind China.

People can dislike my comments about Japan being more mobile and computer than console, but the figures are a verifiable fact.

"Xbox sold more consoles on Series X/S launch than in any other 24-hour period"

https://www.vg247.com/2020/11/12/xbox-series-x-series-s-24-hour-launch-record/

The previous largest launch for the Xbox brand was the Xbox One which sold over 1 million units in 24 hours across 13 launch markets. We can infer Series X/S is over 1 million from this.

Reports all over the Internet Xbox X breaking down, freezing, Reedit has a long list of problems users reported.

That's already been debunked - those are fakes

"Those Xbox Series X smoking videos have been proven fake"

https://www.tomsguide.com/news/xbox-series-x-reportedly-overheating-and-smoking-what-you-need-to-know

Xbox same old controller from 12 years ago, still uses AA batteries which run out every few days.

You have the option to use AA or rechargeable lithium batteries - and those batteries still last longer than the DS4's measly 800mAh battery which runs out in less than a day. While the DualSense controller is getting closer to the Xbox design

"Sony Unveils The PlayStation 5 DualSense Controller, Twitter Says It Looks Like A Xbox Controller"

https://hiphopwired.com/playlist/ps5-dualsense-controller-xbox-controller/

No new interface

The interface is new, but it's not a revamp - it's an evolution. Because people have been complaining that the Xbox changes its UI every couple years way too much. The new Xbox UI is much faster and responsive with years of polish and refinement behind it now.

Meanwhile, Sony changed the Playstation Store for the worse:

Eurogamer: "Here's our first look at the Xbox Series X dashboard - Blazing speed."

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2020-08-19-heres-our-first-look-at-the-xbox-series-x-dashboard

"Playstation Store redesign – the biggest UX Failure of 2020"

PushSquare: "The New PS Store for Web, Mobile Is a Dramatic Downgrade - It beggars belief, honestly"

https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2020/10/the_new_ps_store_for_web_mobile_is_a_dramatic_downgrade

inadequate cooling, only one fan

One big fan is quieter and cooler than a bunch of smaller fans - ask any experienced PC builder

And the Series X has already been tested to be "whisper quiet" and cool:

"Xbox Series X Has Lower Temperatures Than PS4 Pro and Xbox One X"

https://gamingintel.com/xbox-series-x-has-lower-temperatures-than-ps4-pro-and-xbox-one-x/

Especially against the PS4, which is known for its "jet engine" noise - why do ya think Sony made the PS5 so big? They overcompensated to make sure they don't make the "jet engine" noise mistake again.

only old games

Gears Tactics, AC Valhalla, Dirt 5, Bright Memory, The Falconeer, the upcoming Cyperpunk 2077, Scorn, The Medium - all new games

Compared to Sony Liquid Metal(first), Massive huge heat sink, massive 120mm Fan. Built like a computer!

Series X has a bigger fan - 130mm! (And didn't you just complain about just having one fan?)

And yes, the PS5 is massively huge! The biggest console ever built - bigger than a fridge! Yet it's less powerful - 10 TFlops

The Series X is more powerful at 12 TFlops - yet it's a more compact design that's still "whisper quiet" and cool

"Xbox Series X is whisper-quiet. Your move, PS5 - The Xbox Series X is packing a ton of power, but it doesn't sound like it"

https://www.t3.com/us/news/xbox-series-x-is-whisper-quiet-your-move-ps5

I am surprised I didn't get more down votes considering I am posting on this topic. All you game players got to realize that the game is playing you, not you playing the game... If you want stimulation, you got to start thinking for yourself, be creative. It is creative people that created the game and you are all just puppets in the game and the game is the puppet master.

Many of the creators of games started out as players
