How can a company stay in business when it is hemorrhaging cash? For 4 years no less!

Same reason govt can. They keep borrowing or issuing part ownership for a company (stocks).

He looks like he's aged 10 years in 6 years.

So he is saying basically that he wants to copy the iTunes business model. Yeah, Mr. Stringer, you deserve all that CEO pay for your "ideas".

Quickly reading the headline, I thought he'd survived rectal cancer.

'annus horribilis'

Should read "Howardus horribilis"

“No, I’m not leaving the job,” he said. “I’m fighting. I’m up for the fight. I’ll get the company through it.”

if so, Howard Stringer may become "First Foreign Samurai" in Japan's business history !

Sure Sony has been hit hard this year. But would the company have been profitable without? I have doubts. Four consecutive years of losses in product areas with very short life cycles doesn't speak for the management. There's a strong smell of lame excuses.

We will have 350 million connected devices by the end of next year and all of those delivering content,” he said. “What the public really wants is music TV, movies and video games, and we have all four of those lined up.

God, are you sure all us peoples want this stuff, I DONT! I love music & checking the odd flick, but screw video games & who needs any connected devices to crank tunes or watch the idiot box!

We wud all be better off with less of this damned crap, just dont take my beer!

Stringer said connecting entertainment content—movies, TV shows, games and music—with Sony’s devices—televisions, mobile phones, computers and game consoles—would be key to Sony’s comeback

Agreed, but unlikely to happen given the huge walls that separate the various divisions of Sony. Sony is a 20th century, Japanese-style organization with too many layers and way too much compartmentalization. Can't compete against nimble, aggressive companies like Apple. Much like Japan in total, Sony's best days are well behind it.

lots of "I's" and very few "We's" in his statement
