What I still can't understand is how Sony didn't predicted that its business model was becoming outdated.
To me, they did it, but all the directors stay quiet to avoid shame... It is a characteristic of japanese culture that nowadays is proving to be weak (to stay quiet).

Interesting, Japan Industrial Group, a fund formed by Bain & Co., and Mizuho Securities, has over the years bought quite a few divisions and companies in Japan... but I do not see that they've actually sold anything yet. Not sure what to make of that.

Sony Vaio's are pricey but the design and specs are top notch. Every bell and whistle you could ask for.

Sony is spinning off their PC division as an independent unit - not totally selling it off

I was surprised by the unreliability of my Vaio.

Well soon nothing is going to be left of Sony. TVs to Samsung, PCs to Lenovo. So what doesn't Sony now make besides the gaming, PS3/PS4? And sell at the bottom is typical but not good for the bottom line.

Sony is in a lot of businesses. They have a lot of content, movies, TV, and music.
Their TVs were always very good. I've owned two and both are still going strong, one is 9 years old (HD LCD) and the other is about 15 years old (CRT). I even had one of their android phones that was pretty decent at the time.
I think Sony got too big and tried to do to much, like selling high spec/pretty PCs in a PC downturn. They need to focus on their strengths, like content, games/systems, cameras, etc.

they should focus on BEMS/HEMS/FEMS/CEMS, smart grid applications, CityOS, renewable energy, nanotech, biotech, next gen robotics, smart devices, smart cars, big data analytics and combine everything together. It comes down to good software, great contents, robust eco system, OPENSOURCE, globalization and thinking outside the box. Now, lets see.... who can do that?
