PS5 Pro launch price

US : $700

EU : 800 Euro

If you can't get it, make more money, people with complaints don't get things, only with determination and hard work...

Gaming = Sony's most profitable business. Gaming has almost literary saved Sony from bankruptcy.

Sony definitely should not rely on GTA6 for sales. No misogyny or scantly clad women allowed. Got to avoid the male gaze. Talk about destroying the original target audience.

Sony: come up with your own marcho game in the classic sense and you'll have a hit.

I’m just a regular consumer, but releasing this console offering nothing special, 50% more expensive than its previous model (latter underwent an increase of 20% some days ago btw) with very few games getting the best of the base model and the cherry on top is having to pay extra for the disc drive and the base? I think I’d skip this.

From the sidelines, it seems that gaming is a way of life for gamers and a anti-boredom tool for everyone else. Gamers might like this, everyone else might consider another hobby.

I don't think I want one but honestly, USD$700 is not expensive at all for anyone with a J.O.B.

-18 ( +0 / -18 )

No disc drive. Nope!!!! So I’m locked into buying digital downloads with no way to sell a game I may hate, or buy a second hand game. Atleast the second hand market reduced the cost of entry to a PlayStation in the long run. Give me a disc! Let all the other idiots pay for over priced digital downloads, then realize they can’t resell it. It’s the one reason I still haven’t bought a PS5. I’m waiting for the disc version to drop in price.

its nothing to do with a job. iMHO, For some we want a disc drive because we like to buy and sell our games that actually keeps the local area going because the JOB is in my local area. Giving someone a JOB too. And we get to save some money on buying second hand and recoup some money on selling an incredibly expensive game we may not like. Another reason I want a disc drive is for it to double up as a DVD player.

The sad part is Sony intended to raise the price of the PS5 version that we already have in Japan and in America they are raising the price of PS5 accessories like controllers or whatever but it's a really crappy business scheme that doesn't sound smart at all. The PS4 isn't even completely obsolete because it can still run First Descendants which released July this year and the new Bleach game set to release either the end of this year or early 2025. Not to mention some brand new games that were PS5 only have had issues on issues like Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown. They screwed up by trying to be a Forza clone instead of making a Test Drive game like the gold they gave us many years ago

@Abe234,

Sorry to break it to you, but optical drives are dead for consoles. Actually I really wanted also for the console to have a 4K Blu-ray drive, but it seems that Sony forever dumped this in order to cut costs.

Revenue generated from Sony's game and network services amounted to 28.5 billion U.S. dollars in the company's 2023 fiscal year, making it Sony's largest business segment.5 days ago

@DanteKH

The power is in the hands of the consumers, and forcing everything to be digital means we don't own it. The game Concord was a fail and Sony started deleting content people had for the game like screen captures and recordings, I'm not sure if the same goes for trophies earned too but it is like you are renting the game instead of owning it. Whether there is more to it so we can't resale games or they want to boost their sale numbers and prevent the consumer for reselling the product for a lower price so in turn newer players buy the game from the PS store for the full price increasing the number of units they sold and putting more money into Sony's pockets. But I hate that idea because if I buy a car for example it should be up to me to sell it to gain something back if I want to

I think that right belongs to Nintendo. Sony makes so many games that require online internet connectivity 24/7 to play where as Nintendo focuses more on ways to bring families together with their multiplayer games and still manages to sell multiple units of the same console to families who can afford it. My parents brought me a PS1/2 growing up and I brought a PS4 as an adult but I brought 2 Nintendo switches for my baby siblings, and one regular Switch for myself and a newer Switch OLED model recently. Most parents won't buy their children a PS5 but a Nintendo Switch possibly

What will really drive PS5 sales is a lower price on the base models

That’s after they hiked the price on it twice. What a joke.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Even with terrible pricing across the board worldwide, bo idea why anyone would pay this in Japan. Even considering the exchange rate, the price is just too steep.

If someone buys this rather than build an AM4 based PC to get more bang for their buck they are insane.

It used the be companies bought in bulk for highly reduced prices and subsidized their consoles through future software sales to undercut PC pricing, but apparently those days are over.

@Ken

Not sure why you down voted my comment, I just said what Sony and other console makers are doing, not that I agree with it.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

The games have become too stale. Mostly sequels or something with a popular movie character to make sure there is no chance of failure given the massive investment required to make games taking advantage of the latest hardware. Feels like we are in the video game winter.

Who said it was me? I only said that disk drives are the main demand and people can intentionally choose not to buy digital only versions

I understood what you said I just disagree with it, they aren't as successful as they used to be, PS5 being unavailable because lack of units made and in more recently the mass layoffs and canceled games. Doesn't look all that successful with there still being current gen games running fine on the previous console. As someone who was there for them in the beginning this is almost as bad of a blunder as when they tried to outshine Nintendo when it comes to handheld gaming

I think I will wait for the Pro Plus model.

Do people still buy PlayStation? I thought it had disappeared. The Nintendo games seem to be more popular with kids now.

So provide fact.... not opinion. What are the revenue totals for the companies you believe are better/bigger???

If you can provide legit facts I might agree w you. IDGAF about you opinion.

holy crap dude it's not that deep, if you question it so much research it yourself

Mostly kindergarten games but at a price of an adult's monthly salary? I predict a market fail, also with a score 94 out of 100. lol

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Don't get why people get so much worked up because of PS5 pro cost...

if you say its way exapensive... then why don't you also said something about the new smartphones (not only iPhones) or the price of a pair of Headphone (any maker).

In general, high tech stuff that is new and availoable to the public is expensive.... and in general the price tag for every new gadget has being rising year after year to idiotic levels...

On the other hands note PC are kind of getting cheaper, because note PC (and desktops) are not "new tech" gadgets no more.

I dont question anything that I said or posted... I provided stats for my statement/comment and you are the individual choosing to repeatedly disagree with me without an facts, stats, logic, or information..... only your useless opinion.

The Japanese firm's gaming division has endured tough times this year, with PlayStation 5 missing its sales targets and PlayStation announcing 900 job cuts in February.

And what did they end up doing?

Raising the price of the already somewhat pricy normal PS5 and announcing the PS5 Pro with a hefty price...

I don't think that's how they're gonna cover their losses...

your probably right. But it is a reason why some older gamers. Financially savvy gamers, won’t buy a PS5. I will buy the PS5 disc version eventually. But as long as there is a disc…. I’ll buy that. And if the Nintendo brings over the games I want to play on a cartridge, I’ll buy that. Especially as the machines become more powerful. The last thing I need is another “gamer speak” “Company speak” of pixels or graphics cause to be honest there is a limit to what the eye will perceive on the screen. Even blue ray, I am so over that and I have no interest in 4K or 8K. If it’s the standard I’ll go with it, but I’m pretty much over the tech hype. Comes with age I guess. lol.

8万円 for the standard PS5. No thanks. Rather buy a used car.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Is there any reasons why this "Pro" PS5 version is 50% more expensive than the normal one?

Still plays the exact same games with the exact quality settings, so what gives?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

The PS4 Pro comprised only 12% of all PS4s

When the PS4 Pro was released, Sony lowered the price of the base PS4, while pricing the PS4 Pro to the original PS4 price

The disc-less PS5 Pro price is 40% higher than the original disc PS5 price, while the disc PS5 Pro price is almost 60% higher

The PS4 Pro had the obvious advantage for everyone going to 4K at a time when 4K TVs were starting to become the norm. There doesn't seem to be an obvious advantage of the PS5 Pro for anyone but the hardcore of gamers

Thus, expect the PS5 Pro to comprise less than 12% of all PS5s
