It's such a pity about SONY.
Back in the days of Ibuka-san and Morita-san, it was a wonderful, creative company.
The Walkman was incredible.
Truly portable music.
But they lost direction.
And like Microsoft, are rapidly becoming irrelevant.

Sony put profit ahead of responsibility, and this what happens. I still generally think their products are good, but never will I buy a Sony product with Networking capabilities (my PSP can, but I haven't subscribed or made a profile).
'Tis a shame.

"Most Epic Fail"
What a ridiculous waste of time and resources. But that is Las Vegas for you. Providing real entertainment for the 'people'. Give me a break. Come up with something more constructive.

It's kind of like giving mock awards to banks that got robbed, then giving out more awards to actual robbers.

Agreed. This supposed "Black Hat" gathering of computer security professions (sic) can't be THAT prestigious if they're too stupid to realize that giving out pwnage awards is only going to encourage MORE hacking attempts. Then again, that keeps them in business so maybe that was the intent all along.

Agree with JohninNaha. Sony USED TO be an innovator and producer of brilliant products. I grew up aspiring to own a sony hi-fi, the latest walkman, TV etc. When I'd saved my pocket money eventually I got a walkman that lasterd for years! Now, it is fair to say they have been PWNED by the yanks.....

BurakuminDes - that's right. They were dream products, things you'd really want to have. They actually made a really good mobile phone. Very simple, address book and phone and that's about all it did, in black and white - no colors. Easy to use - even one handed and the battery lasted a week.
Then they got into computers and became just another assembler, like Gateway (RIP), Compaq (RIP) and the struggling Dell.
The only company doing any real innovation is Apple.
But I can't help feeling that what Apple is doing now, SONY ought to have done years ago.
But they didn't, and so a lot of people are using iMacs, iPads, iPods and iPhones.

Even without this, Sony isn't doing that well recently. Last time I checked, the only division that was giving good profit was finance. Can you imagine? Sony is kept alive by selling insurance and stuff... Truly sad. The final nail in the coffin was discontinuation of AIBO some years ago.

I can't help but suspect that Sony being owned and shamed has something to do with their being a Japanese company...i.e. generally behind and incompetent. How are those "MD" players selling, Sony?

"it's a Sorry", too bad. But failure builds up character. Or so I would like to think.

Sony had the cool factor... Problem was that it wasn't really any better than its competitors. When user interfaces became more and more critical with common electronics, they failed. Now they rely on a has-been name and proprietary technologies/patents, which seems like a last resort to hold on in a market where things like Pwnies take hold.
