Using Apple myself. Would anyone recommend a switch to spotify?

Why?

One reason I can think of that bugs me with Apple are the missing tracks from some albums. Maybe a licencing issue??

That's what I'm worried about accessing from Japan. It will be full of J-pop and nothing else.

I use Spotify in Japan. I think it's great. I'm actually a music fan with lots of LP records and CDs, but Spotify has plenty of obscure stuff on it to keep me happy. It also has remastered versions of albums I've got on LP that now come with alternative versions of tracks I've never heard. So listening to Spotify instead of an LP or CD I have in my house in an earlier version has also been an eyeopener. There is way more than J pop on there. 25 Fela Kuti albums, just to give one example.

Spotify is an European platform and when you can cope with a short ad after 30 minutes you can be a Spotify Free member for ages. The platform has an enormous data base with' as stated above, a lot of alternative versions of tracks. Compared to Spotify on the last issue, iTunes really sucks.

With Spotify Free you've to accept 'shuffle' play on the mobile phone but on a tablet or desktop you can 'follow' your own playlists.
