The end of an era, although I'm sure he'll still be thinking of new ideas and hopefully remain in some sort of consulting capacity. Anyway, the man deserves his retirement. Thank you, Mr. Jobs, for all your hard work and genius!

Well the Koolaid is finish! Apple stock trading at 5%.

I wish him all the best. I hope his resignation is not because he has little time left; rather, that he wants to spend more time doing other things.

CEO to Chairman... he is not dead nor completely out of the picture yet!

This could indicate that his health situation is grave. I hope I'm wrong.

I wish him all the best. I hope his resignation is not because he has little time left; rather, that he wants to spend more time doing other things.

I have heard rumors that the publication date of his autobiography has been rescheduled to a much earlier date, which unfortunately may indicate that he has little time left.

Also from the article:

Apple’s innovations include the “computer mouse” to make it easy for users to activate programs or open files.

Apple did not invent the computer mouse, there are many who claims the invention of the mouse, some are mentioned in this Wikipedia article, none of them are Apple. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_mouse#Early_mice

Apple might however have made the mouse famous.

Brilliant man. I hope they cure him.

Was extremely sad to hear this news earlier. Have worked for Apple and been using macs since I was a pup, he's always been an inspiration. 99% of the CEOs of these Fortune 500 companies could leave and no one would care, but Jobs... is Apple. Cannot wait to read the autobiography. I hope his health isn't as bad as feared.

today is a good day

Apple did not make the mouse please get your facts correct:

He is still Chairman, Bill Gates also did a similar move in the past. Jobs made Apple the number one company beating Exxon Oil, he is one of the best CEO's there is and also a founder of Apple

A good movie to see regarding Apple and Microsoft would be 'Pirates of Silicon Valley'

I think of Wozniak was CEO of Apple, I doubt Apple would be where it is today, that is not to say Wozniak has contributed a lot to Apple, his book 'Iwoz' is a good read also.

Giving his state of health, etc.

He don't seem to be much longer for this realm and I got many apple-supporters/fans as friends and they all say 6 months (max 12).

Remember his health status needs to be disclosed to share holders but not the public/media.

i wish 2 things:

i wish him the best

i wish apple were a little less evil.

-1 why?

So many Apple/Jobs haters here, I don't understand why. First, he is a human being. He deserves our wishes to get well. Second, his helped a lot mankind - in the technology field - to advance in huge steps. I may say that my computer life is divided in two parts: before and after Macintosh.

The media is now calling new CEO Cook the "World's most powerful gay man"

Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Best wishes for Mr Jobs - a real innovator. Just wish his goods were a bit cheaper.

With Jobs' incredible vision, he pushed computers/tablets/smartphones to where they are now.

Without him, we'd still be using DOS.

@LostinNagoya

So many Apple/Jobs haters here

Except for, mabye "The True", I don't see any Jobs haters here at all.

I see a couple that are unaffected by the reality distortion field, that's all.

Ok, I found one more (sorry). But still not a lot

Very regrettable news. He is really visionary leader and creates foundation of many innovative products. May he get well.

This could indicate that his health situation is grave. I hope I'm wrong.

@Paul, I hope so too, but sadly, if you look at the facts and his health history, doesn't sound too good I'm afraid, the man had pancreatic cancer and liver cancer, had a liver transplant, that in itself is an extremely difficult operation to go through, actually, when he had that transplant, I was surprised that he survived, because it is still rare. Your odds of surviving a kidney transplant are much higher and more common. And look how he looks, he didn't look good at all, I was always thinking in the back of my head when this moment would come. I truly wish him all the best and I hope that he will be well again and stays with Apple as long as possible. A true visionary to the max! I don't why there are so many haters here. When you think about what Steve jobs has done for the world, he really is in some aspects a true pioneer, the man really changed our lives the way we communicate and function in our daily lives. Is he perfect, NO. He is a business man and he must've done something right. Apple has more money than the U.S. federal government, that ain't too shabby, if you ask me.

Jobs has done excellent work with Apple and has kept it on the cutting edge, especially in the 00s. I'm sure Apple will continue to put out good products in the short term after he's retired, but I wonder about the future. It takes a certain kind of person to accurately predict what direction will serve a company and its public best in the right time and place. Jobs was and is that man.

A great man, a great legacy. He brought Apple back from the brink, and blew away its competitors. From the first colorful round iMac, the iPod, the iPhone, all the way up to the iPad2, changing the standards, and creating new ones. The future is still bright for Apple. I just feel for the man and his family. I hope that he can show up for an occasional "One more thing..." in the future, but other than that, I hope that he has long quiet retired life with his family.

The computer mouse was originally developed at Stanford. It was incorporated into the design of the Xerox Alto computer at Xerox PARC.

The best thing Jobs did for Apple was moving it away from solely Computers. It's still kicking among a trail of dead PC makers.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

People followed Apple's direction because they followed Jobs. He could create demand where before there was none. When Jobs becomes deceased, it'd be interesting how fervent the following will remain to be. Remember what happened the first time Jobs was not with Apple - people weren't as enthusiastic about following Apple's direction. If that happens, that's when Google takes over.

Steve Job is a Thomas Edison of today.

Don't want to sound like the Grim Reaper - but reports just coming in suggest that Mr.Jobs only has weeks to go, he is now a virtual skeleton as seen in the pictures. http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/apple-creator-faces-the-toughest-test/story-e6frea6u-1226123921722 So sad for humanity and innovation, it just goes to show that it doesn't matter how incredibly rich you are- if your number is up it's up. Thanks for the great products, Mr.Jobs.
