So much for the negativity about iPhone 5!

2 ( +6 / -4 )

When I see sheeple queued up in long lines outside stores to buy these expensive toys, in order to impress their peers, I roll my eyes. Pathetic.

-4 ( +7 / -11 )

Apple shares rose 1.2% to a new all-time closing high Friday of $691.28, giving the tech firm a market value of $648 billion.

Contrast that with Sharp, Panasonic, Sony, etc. Apple is introducing real game-changers -- products that consumers want and are willing to pay top dollar for. Even if they have to wait a couple of weeks and/or stand in long lines to get them. Sadly, Japan's electronic firms are mired in nothing but "me-to" offerings.

herefornow-san,

Japan's electronic firms are mired in nothing but "me-to" offerings.

It's strange, isn't it?

Not so long ago Japanese audio equipment, Walkman, etc., was the best.

People are blinded by the trend and they don't even bother to look for a bigger picture. There are no major innovation just some taller screen, lighter weight and slimmer body, panorama etc which I don't find extraordinary. If you compare the new iphone5 with the new SONY xperia T you might think that apple is not doing anything new, but again loyal fans don't care at all as long as it's apple.

I wish I could get one right now, but will keep my 4S till next year. The best definition I read so far is from CNET: when you have in on your hands, it feels like "fine jewelry". No wonder people want it. Besides the ultra cool design, iOS6 is another fantastic experience, smooth, efficient, at least I will have it next week. Congrats Apple for another superb product.

The biggest drawback I see with Apple phones are that there are no SD card slots, unlike my Android phone. You're stuck with the limited memory space. If I wanted to, I can copy videos from my computer, remove the card and transfer elsewhere. I can get bigger memory space and don't have to be concerned about the commercialism with Apple. It has almost the same functions as Apple, too.

Cue the curious bellyaching by anti-Apple posters. Once again Apple has exceeded expectations and people are voting with their wallets. Another slam-dunk, home run win for mighty Apple!

1 ( +7 / -6 )

Lets wait a few months before we call it a "Slam-Dunk".

Just because people are buying doesn't mean they will keep or enjoy them. Go to Book-Off and see how many 2nd-hand 4 and 4S phones are offered, and those prices will drop like rocks once the Iphone 5 hits the market.

Apple is headed for a record 4th quarter, thanks to the iPhone5.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Agreed Manuel D. Valencia III. No removable micro SD or battery. Two must have things on a phone in my view.

The iFaithful will join the iFrenzy as iExpected. But, that's their iChoice. No removable memory(for easy data transfer),not waterproof/dustproof, no USB, only 8mpxl camera, etc. But if you want that, you're welcome to it. The SE EXPERIA HD has a 12mpxl camera with 3D and panorama plus the other features and more. Whatever floats your boat, I say.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

lol at the comparing of Apple iPhone with the cheap Sony which doesn't even have 1% of the world's share of the market.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Manuel-san,

I can copy videos from my computer, remove the card and transfer elsewhere.

That's one way to do it, sure.

But you can do this wirelessly, through iTunes or on iCloud.

An SD card is just another bit of kit to have to carry around or that might get lost.

We don't have to be a bunch of technological Scientologists about the technology we use. At the same time why go way out of your way to slam a technology you don't use or have nothing to do with (which then makes you a real cult nut job) . I don't use Apple stuff. But it's just my preference and I'm very open to recommend it if it's best for that person. If you are happy with your iPhone I'm more than happy for you. But I'll personally stick with something that's not Apple.

all i can say is besides the need from many people to own a product that from the beginning apple created the need to own Steve Jobs stated thats the core create something extraordinary that in some way everyone fan, pro apple, non apple supporter will talk about in the end you all are part of this collective experience and you all in one way or the other end up talking about apple thats the whole point.

about the iPhone and apple totally disagree with people that pretend to know or express uninformed opinions about such products first inform yourselves then share your thought otherwise you are only sharing ignorance I been immerse in technology products all my life call it nintendo, compaq, imb, sony ericksson, vaio, microsoft, apple, toshiba etc so basically I know much of these products and been involve one way or the other with android, windows, iOS or MacOS so know by experience a lot more than regular folks.

about iphone can say openly that this new iPhone form the start its a most device to have solid proven on the field that works and will respond to whatever need you may have in one word its reliable with new cool futures that in the end you will apply to whatever you do before starting to say i don't like apple products try to at least get the complete picture compare with the rest of good smartphones such a samsung, nokia etc.

After using a Sony Xperia for 2.5 years I decided to pre-order an iPhone 5. I was not too impressed with Android OS. I have heard the newest version is much better but I have decided to give Apple a try.

Whatever floats your boat. No Tech-Scientology.

In the end it comes down to battery life for me which is why I have a Razr Max and an iPad 2....plus I'm not tied to any one OS. Mobile phones advertise a lot of functions these days but they don't tell you that using your phone to its full potential will either drain the battery in half a day or put you up at your downloading cap well before the month ends...

Especially for big or many files, it takes a lot longer to go thru wi-fi, than just using to what amounts to is just a small flash drive (that's practically what a micro-SD card is, and about the same size too). If people can carry small flash drives, they can carry small flash cards. Especially for regular Apple users - Apple specializes in making things smaller. And it's not for "permanent" storage to keep (that's what the computer's hard drive is for) - it's just for transferring to the computer. At all other times, the micro card is always carried inside the phone.

There's a lot of bias involved when it comes to Samsung products vs Apple products. Legions of fans will buy anything being sold under the name of their favorite brand.

Personally, right now for me the SIII wins on the basis of specs. But I'll reserve final judgement as the full specs of iPhone 5 have not been released. But I must admit, I'm not a fan of Apple not having file sharing and transfer capabilities boasted by other smartphones.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

I used to be worried about the file transfer and sharing, but in the end I realized that I never do those things with my Razr anyway. Everyone has their own habits and use, but it just turned into a non-issue for me. Same with the non-USB issue with my iPad.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Typing this from an old iMac which serves my needs, just got an Xperia X01B Phone and it also serves my needs for phone-calls and GPS.

Said that also got a Windows as well as a Linux PC at my desk, Yeah, I run 3 OS/PC at the same time.

Chose the device that suits your needs and NOT the name on the box. Be smart.

Not in my experience.

Synching and transferring files is much faster with iTunes and iCloud.

At least it is on a Mac.

It may be different on other platforms, I don't know.

Oh definitely, people don't have to use it. However, people should at least have the option, for something so basic. Like nowadays computers have hard drives big enough for most people's needs, but watch the outcry if companies limit their option to add additional hard drive space.

Yep, for me, computers are just tools, definitely not an ideology.

That's because they're replacing with the iPhone 5.

You miss the point completely. The design philosophy at Apple is keep everything simple. Give the average user access to the file system and within a year they will have a tangled mess of directories and not know where half their files are. Keep it in the background and you avoid this.

After using a Sony Xperia for 2.5 years

well sadly that phone was a horrible offering from sony, Android 2.1 on that phone compared to Android 4.0 on a Galaxy S3 is a light year gap. Sorry you stuck with for so long. I suppose at least with apple you know exactly what you are going to get, go with android you can get clunkers. Not the Galaxy range - s2,s3,nexus - get one of those and you have a superb piece of hardware on your hands. LostinNagoya - you must be on the payroll of Apple. If not introduce yourself for a customer satisfaction ad campaign.

That reminds us of this:

http://technewspedia.com/new-advertising-from-apple-makes-mac-users-look-foolish-and-inept/

http://www.examiner.com/article/apple-realizes-genius-ads-really-clueless-scrubs-them-from-the-internet

Sometimes even Apple underestimates its users. Apple users aren't that dumb; even they would feel insulted, like they did with the ads. For years, people have been using flash cards inside their cameras and flip phones even before smartphones existed. And my point was missed: just have the option (people don't have to use it).

Or increase the storage - flash storage is getting cheap. Or reduce the price differences: $100 price-differences between iPhone capacities......... when price-differences between corresponding micro flash card capacities are only $20. Otherwise, just give users the option.

lostrune2-san,

I take photos with my iPhone 4s.

As I do so, the iPhone sends them to iCloud.

Since my iMac and iPad are also linked to iCloud, these photos appear on them as Photo Stream in iPhoto.

When I connect up my iPhone to my iMac to back it up and charge it, it asks me if I want to delete the photos.

I delete them.

They are already on my iMac and I can see them on my iPhone any time I want with Photo Stream.

I can't think of how this seamless and automatic process would be any better with flash storage.

Am I missing something?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Am I missing something?

Yes, that has nothing to do with flash storage. You usually use the flash storage for storing large files like apps and movies.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Yep, I take movies with my iPhone, usually more than 1GB each. It takes too long to transfer over wi-fi, when I got to go and record the next ones. I expect the movie files to become even larger with the better camera on the new iPhone.

(On a similar note, I play ROMs and games on my Androids, and those files can be huge. Without a way to separate those off to their own storage, I won't have enough space for anything else, and I don't want to un-install and re-download over and over again whenever I need space.)

and the word is it'll scratch like fine jewellery too, after only one day the shiny bevelled edge gets burred and chipped. lovely. As apple themselves say "Diamond-Cut Beveled Edge: A crystalline diamond is used to cut the chamfers of iPhone 5. This process gives the beveled edge its beautiful sheen" a sheen gone in the first day unrless you put a case on it. The rest of the case scuffs quite badly too. "Scuff-gate" has already been thrown out there after just one day!
