Hinton prefers a different term — superintelligence — “for AGIs that are better than humans.”

It is true that those saying this development is the same as others such as the Industrial Revolution are wrong as Hinton has pointed out.

The back prop algo is revolutionary in that it shows a clear path to superintelligence.

That could be humanity's last innovation and why people like Hinton raised the alarm.
