Chinese companies directed by the government to specifically designed social media apps to target various foreign countries. Specifically designed for intelligence gathering and influence the users while the company makes money.

The same is true with the smartphone companies like Huawei that was recently running an influence campaign on British MPs on behalf of the Chinese government.

Notice how every time a country decides to reduce their dependence on certain Chinese tech companies that the Chinese government initially speaks on the companies behalf in the response.
